KOTA KINABALU - The deadline for the exhibition and public consultation on the Final Draft Kota Kinabalu Local Plan 2020 has been extended to June 6 following complaints over a short time frame.
Mayor Abidin Madingkir on Thursday made the announcement at his office here, after two opposition politicians claimed the 10-day time frame it was given was not sufficient to gather enough feedback on the draft.
"The deadline is supposed to be today (May 22), but we will extend it," he said.
On Wednesday, the Sabah Progressive Party(SAPP) and the Democratic Action Party (Sabah DAP) members raised concerns over the draft plan, citing land grab issues and lack of transparency from City Hall, which only gave 10 days for public viewing of the plan.
Madingkir said he will consider whether there is a need for a forum, adding that the second exhibition was done in response to the first draft.
A former consultant to the Local Plan, Sim Sie Hong, meanwhile, said the new plan is "more or less the same but this time all of the corrections were done in response to the first public consultation."
"We cannot keep on objecting and objecting. Because it has already gone on for so long, we still need a time frame to finalise the draft," he said.
Sim said while "it's easy to comment, the work is not.
The hassle we have to go through like the underground cable, but after the project is done nobody knows."
He further said City Hall still has the authority to review the draft plan even after it is approved.
Madingkir also said his focus now is to ensure the draft plan is finalised, so it can help give some guideline to further develop the city.
He also maintained that they want to restore Tg Aru beach to its original form, where the work includes beach widening, drainage improvement and sand dredging.
