Suspect in Lahad Datu shooting arrested, 13 others detained

LAHAD DATU - The commando who allegedly opened fire outside a 24-hour convenience store, killing another soldier and injuring two civilians on Wednesday has been detained by police.

The commando was one of 11 military personnel arrested in the afternoon in connection with Wednesday morning’s shooting.

A total of 14 people were detained for questioning.

The dead soldier in the early morning incident has been identified as 28-year-old L/Kpl Mohd Fiffixezafey Mat Hussin, who died at the Lahad Datu hospital from bullet wounds to the chest following the 4.45am shooting.

Both the civilians, aged 31 and 38, have been admitted to hospital and are in serious condition.

One of them, a bouncer, was shot in the shoulder, while the other individual was shot in the leg.

Police are investigating the motive behind the shooting and commotion in front of the Gemilang convenience store close to a police beat base.
