The party distanced itself from the sacked member earlier but is now describing the militant as a martyr.
PAS has insulted the victims of terrorism by paying tribute to a sacked member who died while fighting in Syria, MCA central committee member Ng Chok Sin said today.
Mohd Lotfi Ariffin was sacked from PAS in June following his involvement with a militant group.
Ng said PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar and adviser Nik Abdul Nik Aziz described Lotfi as a martyr and observed a moment of silence during the Dewan Ulama Muktamar which is being held in Kulaijaya now.
He said the party had even proposed funds to be raised for Lotfi’s family.
“This is an insult to the victims who were tortured and murdered in the name of religion.
“Is PAS condoning acts of terrorism in the name of Islam?” asked Ng.
“While the government is against acts of terrorism, PAS is praising a fallen militant and not even denying it,” he said in a press statement today.
Ng questioned if the tribute was to play the religious card to garner support for the upcoming Pengkalan Kubor by-election.
He said PAS sacked and distanced itself from Lotfi after finding out about his involvement with IS.
“So what is the reason behind PAS’ tribute to him now?
“Is it because PAS feels they can do better by playing up religious sentiments?” he asked.
Ng urged non-Muslims in Pengkalan Kubor to reject PAS at the ballot.
He said the DAP had defended PAS while accusing Umno of extremism and had turned the non-Muslim community against Barisan Nasional.
“DAP’s failure to protest against this tribute only gives the impression that they too, supported extremism,” he added.
