PBB says DAP a party of jokers

DAP can make sky high claims or try to match BN in every aspect, but “the rakyat and public are PBB’s judge and jury”.

SIBU - PBB Supreme Council member, Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, has described the claim by the Sarawak chapter of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) that it could deliver basic infrastructure facilities to the rural people at a fraction of what it would cost the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) as “the biggest joke of the week”.

“The Opposition just wants to hoodwink the people with the state polls around the corner,” said Abdul Karim, who is Assistant Minister of Youth Development and Asajaya assemblyman. “DAP’s Impian Sarawak Programme and Go Rural Campaign are just to create some publicity for the party.”

“When they (DAP) say they can do a road in Sri Aman for RM 7000 instead of the RM 70,000 that the BN would need if it were to do it, I can’t help laughing.”

He was commenting on DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen’s address and its Bintulu Declaration at the party’s 17th Sarawak Annual Convention on Sunday in the seaside town of Bintulu in Central Sarawak.

Chong had said that the DAP was going to all the places where the BN had neglected the people for decades and implied that this (neglect) was due to the “rotten politics” practiced by the ruling party in Sarawak.

Abdul Karim conceded that the DAP could make sky high claims or try to match BN in every aspect, but “the rakyat and public are our judge and jury”.

“DAP and Pakatan Rakyat have always accused BN of trying to hoodwink the people,” said Abdul Karim. “Now, I am pointing my finger at them for trying to hoodwink the rakyat by claiming that they can match or do rural projects cheaper and better than BN.”

The PBB Supreme Council member claimed that BN carries out hundreds of projects in Sarawak quietly every year “but DAP behaves like a chicken which crows to let the whole kampung know after laying just one egg”. (‘bertelor sebiji tapi riuh sekampung’).

In a contradiction in terms, Abdul Karim also alleged at the same time that DAP’s “cheapskate projects” under its Impian Sarawak programme are being done in a “hush hush” manner” and “no one is sure how long it will last”.
