KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested 13 people who were planning to join the Islamic State terrorist group during a raid in Shah Alam, near here, last night.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the men and women were nabbed by a team of Special Branch's Counter-Terrorism Division operatives at a restaurant.
He said the suspects, who were planning to go to Syria through Turkey to join the militant group, were detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act.
The suspects include several higher learning institution students, labourers and factory workers.
Khalid said further details will be revealed in a press statement from the division soon.
