PR break-up in Sarawak? no DAP rep at meeting

Baru believed that PAS had sent a notice to the DAP about the meeting.

KUCHING - There was no DAP representative at Sarawak Pakatan Rakyat (PR)’s third meeting today, held specifically to discuss the division of seats among its three components for the 11th state election.

Because of the DAP’s absence, the meeting chaired by PAS on rotation, only discussed the overlapping distribution of seats between PAS and PKR.

The meeting attended by state PAS commissioner Adam Ahid, state PKR chairman Baru Bian and representatives from both parties, decided that one of the five overlapping seats, Belawai, be given to PAS.

The four other overlapping seats, namely, Dun Tupong, Daro, Jepak and Asajaya would be discussed at the next meeting.

Adam said when asked by reporters, that he did not receive any acknowledgement from DAP on whether its representative would attend the meeting.

Asked whether DAP had boycotted the meeting, he replied, “Ask DAP yourself on why they did not come”.

Meanwhile, Baru believed that PAS had sent a notice to the DAP about the meeting.

“We (PKR) were given notice and I was told the notice had also been given to DAP. As Tuan Haji (Adam) said, we don’t know what is the reason, maybe you can call them,” he said.

Last Oct 18, DAP said it was ceasing all communication with PAS and PKR, but would remain in Sarawak PR.

Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the party’s state committee had decided to distance itself from PAS and PKR until the latter declared their stand on the ‘hukum hudud’.

  1. DAP is in position to form a strong stand alone Sarawak Opposition and win more votes by asserting and campaigning for Sarawak self-determination - a movement which is now spreading quickly in Sarawak.
