“Whether PAS realise it or not, they made amendments to God’s laws,” he said, adding that the law could not have come from God if human beings could makes changes to it.
The second mistake, he noted, was that PAS made a move to pass the law at state level when it is standard operating procedure that the law had to be brought to Parliament to be passed, and only then taken back to state level.
Zaid, who was speaking on Friday night at a forum on the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code organised by Kelantan MCA, added that there would be chaos if there were two sets of laws, one for Muslims and another for non-Muslims.
“What PAS is doing is adopting gangster politics to force the law down people’s throats.
“In the end the people will be divided and it could eventually lead to religious and ethnic sectarian violence,” he said.
Zaid further stated that the Federal Constitution was the supreme law of the land and PAS’ push for hudud was for political mileage.
“If they can amend God’s laws (now) then 20 years down the road, they will amend it again. What they are propagating is not God’s laws but human laws.
“God’s laws cannot be amended or diluted or touched in any way otherwise it is blasphemy. And PAS is using the faith of the Muslims as a tool (to state) that we cannot question God’s laws. The problem is that these are PAS’ laws and therefore, we can question it, whether we are Muslims or non-Muslims,” he said.
