Brawling students questioned by police after video of fight goes viral

PENAMPANG - Four teenage girls who allegedly bullied a schoolmate at a secondary school here were picked up by police after a video of their public brawl went viral.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Azmir Abdul Razak, in confirming this, said the students, three aged 13 and one 14-year-old, were brought in for questioning after the victim’s father lodged a police report following the incident which occurred on April 1.

Initial investigations revealed that the complainant was contacted by the secondary school’s discipline teacher about his daughter’s involvement in a fight with five others, four of whom had been identified.

“It was learnt that the argument erupted after the victim lodged a report with one of the teachers against one her assailants, a 14-year-old, after allegedly seeing her making out with her boyfriend.

“Angered by the report, she approached the victim and started hitting her,” he told The Rakyat Post.

The 49-second video, which has since gone viral, caught the attention of the police and today all four suspects were detained following the police report.

Azmir said statements have been recorded from the four girls, and they have been released on police bail.

“We have also visited the school and spoken to the discipline teacher. She said the all involved parties’ parents will be called and that disciplinary action will be taken, including suspending them.”

The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

In the video, the girls, wearing their respective uniformed associations’ t-shirts, were seen hitting and kicking each other, until a male student intervened.
