May Day Rally: Lockdown at Padang Merdeka, other areas cordoned

KOTA KINABALU - Police personnel are seen on standby at Padang Merdeka downtown here as early as before noon, which will be the location of the Himpunan May Day at 3pm.

The field vicinity was cordoned with yellow tapes as policemen on duty stood by to stop any individuals trying to enter the premise.

There was a slight drizzle at the city as of 1.30pm and so far no civil society organisations (CSOs) representatives were present at the location. The rally organised by Bersih Sabah, was aimed as a peaceful assembly on GST and related issues.

Police have obtained a court order which banned the rally from five main open areas including Padang Merdeka, Taman Chung Thien Vun, City Park, Segama waterfront and Dataran Bandaraya.
