Police suspect lobster farm robbery an inside job

KOTA KINABALU - Sabah police suspected an inside job in last week’s armed robbery on Pulau Bait off Semporna.

State police commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman revealed police had identified several individuals, including locals, in connection with the incident.

“We have information and we have the suspects. At the moment, police are still collecting intelligence.

“I believe the suspects are assisted by individuals who are the eyes and ears for them,” he told reporters after handing over 34 motorbikes to patrol police team and 21 motorcycles to Amanita (Peace Lady), today.

Last Thursday, five gunmen stormed a lobster breeding farm on Pulau Bait and robbed two workers.

It was believed the suspects came from a neighbouring country and had reached the farm by boat.

Farm owner was not around when the incident occurred at 3am.

Following the incident, Sabah police led by Sabah Crime Investigation Department chief Datuk Salehudin Abdul Rahman and Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) carried out “a project meeting” on Monday.

“I will also look into the effectiveness of the curfew hour and will revise it if there is a need,” stressed Jalaluddin.

The 19th phase of the 7pm to 5am curfew is scheduled to end on May 17. The curfew is enforced at six districts within the Eastern Sabah Security Zone.

It covers three nautical miles from the coastline into the waters off Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Kunak, Lahad Datu, Tawau, and Semporna - NST
