Seven to face trial in Morais murder case

KUALA LUMPUR - Five men will reportedly be charged tomorrow with the murder of government prosecutor Kevin Morais, while a military doctor and another man will be charged with abetment.

The seven will be charged at the Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, the Malaysian Insider reported. Both charges carry the death penalty on conviction.

The doctor, a colonel in his 50s, was with the pathology lab at Tuanku Mizan military hospital, was already facing trial on charges of unlawful trade and bribery.

Morais was the deputy public prosecutor handling the case while he was on secondment to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency from the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

His body was found encased in cement in an oil drum in Subang Jaya last week, 12 days after he went missing while driving to work in Putrajaya from his home in Mont Kiara. He had returned to the Attorney-General’s Chambers in July, as deputy head of the Appellate and Trial Division, after 10 years with MACC.

Hundreds of people attended his wake over the last three days at the memorial centre in Sungai Besi. However, his remains have not been claimed by his family as his brothers are reported to be unhappy over the uncertainty over the cause of death, and are awaiting the complete post-mortem examination report.

The funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Divine Mercy in Shah Alam on Oct 3 - FMT
