Sabah police working with SESB to cut off power to gambling dens

KOTA KINABALU - City police are cracking down on the mushrooming of illegal cyber gambling centres and is working with Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) to cut off power supply to those premises.

Over the past two weeks, police have raided four premises, including one operating under the guise of a family entertainment centre, where illegal gambling activities were being carried out.

On Friday, police were accompanied by SESB officials to disconnect power supply at those premises.

“We want to make sure these places can no longer be used for any illegal activities,” said city police chief Asst Comm M Chandra (pic) who led the operation at the four premises at Jalan Gaya in the downtown area, Inanam, Sadong Jaya and Sulaman Central.

He said seven people were arrested in the latest raid at the cyber gambling centre in Sulaman Central on April 19.

ACP Chandra said the operators were now using tablets instead of desktop computers at the cyber centres to make it easier to remove equipment in the event of a raid.

They seized 28 tablets and four handphones in the latest raid.

He said the illegal cyber gambling operators also installed metal grills and closed-circuit television cameras in a bid to thwart police raids on their premises.
