Sarawak goes to polls on May 7

KUCHING - The Election Commission (EC) has fixed nomination and polling dates for the 11th Sarawak state election on April 25 (Monday) and May 7 (Saturday) respectively.

EC chairman Datuk Seri Hashim Abdullah said the campaign period would last for 11 days and early voting would fall on May 3 (Tuesday).

"A total of 1,138,650 people are eligible to vote," he said at a press conference after the commission's special meeting here, today.

The Sarawak state assembly was dissolved on April 11.

The last state election was held in 2011. During the 10th state election, nomination day fell on April 6 and polling day was on April 16.
