Chong questions Guan Eng's motive behind challenge to Najib

"Malaya-based parties must leave if they really respect MA63, the equal partnership status and autonomy of Sarawak and Sabah".

KOTA KINABALU - Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) questioned the motive behind DAP's Secretary General Lim Guan Eng's challenge to the Prime Minister to annul the constitutional amendments made in 1976.

Its Information Chief Chong Pit Fah said in a statement that Lim's challenge has been long overdue.

"Why now? Is Guan Eng seriously sincere about this? Or is he doing this because he is now desperate with the shaky DAP seats in Sarawak?" he asked.

Chong recalled that right after making his declaration in Kuching in 2013, Lim was posed with the question as to what he meant by respecting the equal partnership status of Sarawak and Sabah within the context of the Federal Constitution.

"Did he actually mean Sarawak and Sabah are respectively in equal status with any of the Malayan states after the 1976 constitutional amendment, or equal in status to Malaya as a whole before the said amendment? He never answered until now when Sarawak is having an election," he said.

He said however that SAPP was happy to learn that DAP is fully supportive of the amendment to restore the rights of Sarawak and Sabah. He also said that the party looks forward to the amendment in parliament to prove the DAP's sincerity.

He also reminded Lim not only to challenge the Prime Minister to annul the amendments made in 1976 that has downgraded both the Malaysian states but also challenge Umno and all the peninsula-based parties, including DAP, not to interfere in their state and parliamentary elections.

"Malaya-based parties must leave if they really respect MA63, the equal partnership status and autonomy of Sarawak and Sabah".
