Wet Christmas expected in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU - It is expected to be a wet Christmas in Sabah as Typhoon Nock-Ten is expected to slam into central Philippines on Sunday.

The Meteorological Department said that they expect more rains over most parts of Sabah in the next 48 hours with strong winds over the South China Sea.

Strong winds were also expected hit land areas particularly in the west coast.

“For now, our forecast is more rain at the east coast of Sabah during the day while the west coast will see higher rainfall during late evening and night,” a spokesman for the Meteorological Department said Saturday.

He said strong winds of about 40km to 50kms per hour and waves rising up 3.5metres were expected to be experienced over the South China Sea along Sabah’s west coast due to the typhoon.

For now, he said they were still tracking Typhoon Nock-Ten which is forecasted to hit central Philippines on Sunday.

Typhoon Nock-Ten, which is called Typhoon Nina in the Philippines, has been forecasted to strengthen into a category four typhoon before making landfall on Sunday.

According to reports, the typhoon was east of the Philippines, approaching it at about 20 km/hour. - Star
