Former federal minister requested to be Sabah CM, says Najib

SANDAKAN - A former minister requested to be appointed Sabah chief minister and when he failed to get the post, left Umno, Prime Miniter Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic) revealed.

In a thinly-veiled reference to former Umno vice-president Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal, Najib said the minister was merely pursuing his personal agenda.

“I know he talked to me before about being chief minister,” said the Umno president, referring to Shafie, who formed Parti Warisan Sabah after quitting Umno last year.

Speaking on Friday at the handing over of house keys for tenants of the People’s Housing Programme (PPR) in Taman Batu Sapi here, Najib said that the former minister's new political platform had nothing to do with Barisan Nasional not doing its job for the people.

“He is just pursuing his personal agenda,” Najib said, adding that the Opposition’s main play was to discredit the Government and mislead the people.

He said the former minister was now coming back to the people of Batu Sapi to ask for support.
