Lajim urges Sabah-based opposition parties to unite

TUARAN - Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah President, Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin called on Sabah-based opposition parties to be united in championing for the rights and needs of the people.

He said it is imperative for them to practise tolerance and do away with the need of competing with each other as well as fighting among themselves so that their common goals and objectives could be achieved.

"For Harapan Rakyat, we want to fight and defend Sabah's people rights, irrespective of their backgrounds and religious beliefs as stated under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

"I am optimistic that this is the same struggle and main objective of other parties in Gabungan Sabah or United Sabah Alliance (USA)," he said, adding that Harapan Rakyat has officially joined USA recently.

Lajim, who is also Klias assemblyman, said this during the party's roadshow series held at Kg Gerinsing, Mengkabong, here, Tuesday.

USA Chairman Datuk Mohd Noor Mansor officiated the programme that was also attended by the Harapan Rakyat Deputy President 1 Datuk Maijol Mahap, Vice President 1 Patrick Sadom, secretary-general Abdin Darus and USA leaders.

Lajim said USA has never closed its doors to local-based opposition parties that believe in being united towards facing the coming 14th General Election (GE14).

"Mohd Noor has said before that USA has open its door widely to other local-based opposition parties that wish to combine under one coalition (USA) and fight the current ruling government in the next election.

"In this matter, we must not fight with each other because our main goal is to change the present government in the most important general election," he said.

Lajim said although he has been called a 'frog' for jumping to other parties several years ago, it was not an excuse for him not to work for the people who elected him as their elected representative in Klias.

In fact, he said he was not the only leader in Sabah who jumped from one party to another because there were many government leaders nowadays who had been doing so.

In other developments, he said opposition parties in USA are seeing eye-to-eye in terms of putting a single candidate in the GE14. - Hayati Dzulkifli
