Tripartite joint maritime patrols on April 11

LAHAD DATU - Come April 11, joint security patrols involving Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines in the Sulu Sea will be launched in Sandakan.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) Commander DCP Datuk Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid said the move reflected the government’s seriousness to safeguard territorial waters, especially the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone) from cross-border crimes.

“These coordinated patrols will also make ESSCom continue its commitment to ensuring the peace and security that has been entrusted to it,” he told reporters at a press conference held in conjunction with ESSCom Fourth Anniversary Parade here yesterday.

ESSCom is coordinating three teams, namely the Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency to patrol the ESSZone which covers the districts of Tawau, Semporna, Kunak, Lahad Datu, Kinabatangan, Sandakan and Beluran.-- BERNAMA
