Siphoning of funds for poor: Parti Warisan Sabah veep, 2 others first to be arrested in MACC probe
Also detained were a former deputy secretary of a division in the Rural and Regional Development Ministry and the owner of a construction company, sources said.
These are the first three arrests in the ongoing probe into the siphoning of more than RM100 million from the ministry’s funds which were meant for use in projects to benefit the underprivileged in Sabah.
Peter, 46, who is Asli Jati Engineering Sdn Bhd director was detained at 6.40pm at Sabah MACC headquarters.
Another Parti Warisan Sabah vice-president, Junz Wong, confirmed in a text message that Peter was arrested when he went to the state MACC headquarters to have his statement recorded.
The 52-year-old owner of the construction company was arrested at 8.45pm, also at the state MACC headquarters, while the former deputy secretary was detained at MACC national headquarters in Putrajaya at 8.15pm.
Yesterday, MACC officers from Putrajaya, aided by state officers, swooped in on 15 locations in Sabah and froze bank accounts containing more than RM150 million.
Today, another 10 bank accounts containing RM29 million was frozen.
It was reported that MACC investigators also confiscated documents, financial statements from several companies and cash in various denominations.
The operation which started at 10.30pm yesterday saw several directors and staff of the companies being questioned.
