Razak Baginda top witness in Scorpene probe

The close confidant of PM Najib tops the list of human rights group Suaram's potential witnesses to testify in the French judicial probe.

PARIS: Abdul Razak Baginda’s name topped human rights group Suaram’s list of potential witnesses to testify at the French judicial probe into the controversial Scorpene submarines deal.

The defence analyst, a close confidant of Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, was acquitted in abetting the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu, which had been linked to the submarines contract.

Altantuya poser: 'She got visa from KL'

Can a Mongolian national be issued a visa to enter France while in Malaysia?

The answer is no, says a Foreign Ministry official from Mongolia, who is puzzled that Altantuya Shaariibuu obtained such a visa when in Malaysia - about one or two years before she was brutally killed.

The officer, who was in Malaysia with Setev Shaariibuu (left), the father of the murdered translator Altantuya, said Mongolians must apply for, and obtain, foreign visas in their own country, not abroad.

Altantuya's dad says he saw photo of her with PM

For the first time since the 2007 trial into the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu, her father has revealed that he has "definitely seen a photograph" of his daughter taken with Najib Abdul Razak, who is now prime minister.

At a meeting with human rights NGO Suaram yesterday, Shaariibuu said Altantuya had shown him a photograph of her taken with two men - who he later came to know as Najib and his close ally Abdul Razak Baginda.

Altantuya's father: I have essential information

PETALING JAYA :  The father of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu said that he has the information to link his daughter’s murder to the controversial Scorpene submarines deal.

Setev Shaarriibuu said he was willing to testify in the French judicial probe with regard to the deal, in which Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak has been implicated.

€36 million from Terasai company funneled to Najib's pocket?

Money may have been funneled to UMNO officials through a Hong Kong incorporated company. French investigating magistrates probing the US$1.2 billion sale of submarines to the Malaysian Defense Ministry are targeting, among other things, a Hong Kong-based company called Terasasi (Hong Kong) Ltd., whose principal officers are Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s close friend and the friend’s father.

Investigators believe that at least some of the €36 million funneled through Terasasi ended up in the pockets of Najib, who was Malaysia’s defense minister and deputy prime minister when the two Scorpene submarines were purchased from Thales International or Thint Asia. The state-owned defense giant DCN, later known as DCNS, and Thales established a joint company named Armaris to manufacture the submarines in 2002.

Government deafening silence on Altantuya Murder

Written by  J. D. Lovrenciear

Ignored truths in Altantuya murder: To prove innocence, Najib must order full probe

After all these years of waiting for the satisfactory resolve of the brutal murder of the Mongolian citizen in Malaysia, the justice panned out by the Malaysian court is still not accepted by the public. Both Malaysians and concerned citizens the world over have expressed shock at the verdict.

Leaving aside all jurisprudence for a moment, let us just take a look at what the public has been questioning all these while and yet only getting a deafening silence from the institutions and authorities – including the nation’s leadership.

Ex-Cop: Altantuya murder case great deal of hanky-panky

Former Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Mat Zain Ibrahim has urged police to reopen investigations into the murder of Mongolian translator Altantuya Shaariibuu, until they leave no stone unturned.

“The police are empowered to conduct separate investigations on each of them without having to wait for any other instructions or to pass the buck to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission,” he said.

Judgement to be defeated by time?

After 2 years, judgement on Altantuya's killers remain unwritten: Why?

Written by  Wong Choon Mei

More than 4 years have passed but the Malaysian courts are still dragging their feet on a RM100 million lawsuit filed by the parents of Altantuya Shaariibuu, a Mongolian national killed on Malaysian soil allegedly in connection with a corruption case involving Prime Minister Najib Razak and the purchase of Scorpene submarines from French giant DCN.

Even more glaring, more than 2 years have passed since two of Najib's former bodyguards were sentenced to hang for killing Altantuya in a jungle clearing in 2006, but the judgment for the death sentence remains unwritten. Why?

Scorpene probe in September worries Najib

Nine years ago in 2002, when current Prime Minister Najib Razak was defense minister, Malaysia ordered two diesel-electric Scorpene attack submarines from French shipbuilder DCNS as part of a naval upgrade.

This singular event has since set off a chain of consequences that have culminated into a sensational story of corruption, murder and sex befitting a paperback blockbuster novel.

An upcoming investigation into the 2002 deal by a French appointed investigative judge aims to “get at the truth surrounding the commisions”, according to human rights activist group Voice of the Malaysian People (Suaram) director Kua Kia Soong.

The 'Mongolian' message?

The Mongolian connection? Star's apology not good enough, says Hisham

Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein wants The Star to make a "very clear apology" to the  Muslims in the country, who were deeply hurt over the newspaper's special supplement for the fasting month, in which it had featured pork dishes which are taboo in Islam.

"It was because I was dissatisfied with the newspaper's response to the mistake that I called its Group Chief Editor for an explanation today. If a mistake has been made, a very clear apology must be made to Muslims in the country," Hisham told reporters on Tuesday.

Najib guilty as perceived by public

By Clara Chooi

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders today warned Datuk Seri Najib Razak that the move to deport French lawyer William Bourdon last night has only confirmed his guilt in the eyes of the public.
They told the prime minister that chasing Bourdon out of Malaysia would not absolve him of blame but, instead, would resurrect the ghost of Mongolian model Altantuya Shaaribuu.

Altantuya, who was killed in 2006 and blown up with C4 explosives, has been linked to the government’s controversial RM7 billion Scorpene submarines purchase from French defence company DCNS which is now under probe in France. The purchase was made while Najib headed the Defence Ministry.

Suaram director Cynthia Gabriel, who accompanied Bourdon on his trip here, said the latter did not face any problems at the Immigration in KLIA when he arrived late last night.

'Mystery person travelled with Razak, Altantuya'

There was a third person accompanying political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda and murdered Mongolian interpreter Altantuya Shariibuu on their travels in connection with the purchase of three French submarines by the Malaysian government.

Human rights NGO Suaram director Cynthia Gabriel told Malaysiakini today that the identity of the third person involved in the travels is being verified by French investigators.

Although 'a name' had come up during the probe, she said, it was too early to reveal the identity of the individual.
