Pakatan: Abolish PTPTN, but rich must pay

While confirming its commitment to abolish repayment to national higher education fund (PTPTN) loans and provide free education if it captures Putrajaya, Pakatan Rakyat has stressed that the rich must pay for their own.

“I heard that even the son of Air Asia boss Tony Fernandes also applied (for the loan), this is preposterous,” quipped Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim at a press conference, after chairing the Pakatan Rakyat leadership council meeting today.

The Mongolian translator, who allegedly helped in the Scorpenes deal, was murdered in Malaysia in 2006 and Anwar also said she had been lovers with both Najib and his close friend Razak Baginda.

Anwar's Sept 16 bid was real, says Wikileaks cable

Joseph Sipalan

A leaked US embassy cable has lent credence to Pakatan Rakyat leader Anwar Ibrahim's claim that a group of Sabah and Sarawak politicians had planned to defect from the BN on Sept 16, 2008, over the marginalisation of the two states.

An entry in the cable, posted by Wikileaks, Sabah former Chief Minister Salleh Said Keruak had told US embassy officials that potentially more than half of the 25 Sabah MPs were ready to abandon the BN, following the precedent set by the SAPP.

Secret pact between Najib and Anwar?

Anwar said that it all is a political conspiracy against him.

And I agree.

After all, I was the American Ambassador to Malaysia when all of these things happened the first time around.

As people know, the American Embassy has many sources of information.

Just ask Wikileaks.

Wikileaks: ISA arrests foiled Sept 16 crossover plans?

A purported diplomatic cable from the US Embassy leaked by blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin today revealed that the triple arrests under the Internal Security Act (ISA) in 2008 had stopped Umno MPs from defecting.

According to the cable, said to be sourced from whistleblower website Wikileaks and posted on Raja Petra's blog Malaysia Today, this was confirmed by Pulai parliamentarian Nur Jazlan Mohamed (left) in October 2008, a month after the arrest.

“In early October, Umno MP Nur Jazlan told (US Embassy political counselor Mark D Clark) that the ISA arrests had been “very successful” in achieving Umno's objective of intimidating MPs who had considered joining with (opposition leader) Anwar (Ibrahim),” the cable read.

A New Alliance

By Zaid Ibrahim

Like many Malaysians today, I think our country’s politics is on the verge of breakdown. The Pakatan Rakyat has not managed to play a meaningful political role as a federal Opposition. The checks and balances they are supposed to provide have given way to so much hostility that they will shoot down everything the Barisan Nasional proposes, even good ideas.

'Project IC' whistleblower: Pakatan states at risk

Hafiz Yatim

A key figure in the 'Project IC' exposé warns that attempts to register illegal immigrants as citizens to pad up the electoral roll, a practice allegedly rampant in Sabah, will likely spread to peninsular Malaysia.

NONEDr Chong Eng Leong (right in photo), a former Parti Bersatu Sabah leader, said that his 15 years of research chronicled in his book 'Lest We Forget', estimates that about 600,000 illegal immigrants were given citizenship under the 'Project IC' scheme.

Chong, now a PKR member, warned that likely targets for an expansion of this scheme are the states ruled by Pakatan Rakyat - Selangor, Penang, Kedah and Kelantan.

Pundit: Sarawak losses fatal if PKR doesn’t buck up

Sheridan Mahavera

PKR was over-dependent on Anwar during the Sarawak campaign, said Aeria.

PKR’s dismal performance in the Sarawak election is a disturbing omen of how the party will fare in the next general election unless it institutes painful changes, a political analyst said last night.

Political scientist Dr Andrew Aeria said the party organised a respectable pre-election training programme but it ultimately foundered in making use of those preparations during the campaigning period.

Where is Umno's morality in the sex video?

Daniel John Jambun

I thought it was really ironic recently when so many demonstrations were staged urging the government to investigate the sex video allegedly involving Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. One of these demonstrations include one organised by Sabah UMNO, with participation by Filipino immigrants. This made me think of some very pertinent questions about logic in the whole matter.
