State cabinet must answer the people on power tariff hike

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) said the whole Sabah Cabinet must answer the people why they agreed to the electricity tariff hike by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) through Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) which started last month which has caused unhappiness among the public.

Information Chief, Chong Pit Fah said SAPP was also curious why it was taking TNB and SESB a long time to reply to the memorandum submitted by the party's youth wing on July 15 at Wisma SESB and in Sandakan a day before urging the utility company to explain and reconsider the decision.

SESB New Tariff effective 15 July 2011

We write to record our objection to the SESB new tariff effective 15 July 2011 which, according to some calculations, is 15% to 24%. You claimed that the new tariff will not affect the majority of the people. In fact, the new tariff will impact on every person, some directly as consumers and some indirectly when the costs of living and costs of economic production shoot up.

Minister rapped over remarks on power tariff hike

SANDAKAN: Industrial Development Minister Datuk Raymond Tan Shu kiah has been taken to task for labelling those who objected to the power Tariff hike as having motive and hidden agenda.

Sandakan Chinese Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) Secretary Stephen Wong yesterday said on the contrary those supporting the increase in power traffic also harbour motive and hidden agenda.

“We just leave the matter to the people on the streets to see if Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd have valid reasons to impose the new power tariff.
