Johore Bahru: Citizen Journalists Malaysia voted Haji Amdee Sidik from Sabah as its Chairman for the Session of 2011/2012 at its 2nd CJs Conference was just concluded yesterday (25 of September 2011) held at 11 am at Century Hotel in Johore Bahru.
About 150 participants attended the conference including those from Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar and USA.
CJ Malaysia is a Media Partner and a brainchild of Malaysiakini.com incepted in 2009. It’s also closely associated with International Centre for Journalists, which is based in Washington.
Malaysia has the largest number CJs in this region today and one of the most progressive while Korea comes second in the world, according to Ross Settle, a specialist in engaging community in Social Media in Asia from International Centres for Journalists based in Washington.
The conference brought a few outside speakers including one local speaker from Pemandu, its Director General Ahmad Suhaili Idris who talked about methodologies used to guide and assess the countries on going transformation programme.
Others delivered the papers were Harry Sijadi from Indonesian who was talking about importance of community with the displaced people in Kalimantan using sms and texting. This is due largely to the mushrooming of oil Plantation Corporations impacted the livelihood of indigenous people in Kalimantan.
Ross Settle talks about engaging Community the via social networking media which among them are Facebook, Blogs, davisWiki, front line sms crowdmaps.
The next CJs Conferenence is expected to be held in Penang in 2012.
