Its Information Chief Chong Pit Fah said the construction of the 0.9-Km long road, at a whopping cost of RM14.9 million.
He said ever since its construction cost was unveiled in the news of its official opening by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman on the first day sitting of the State Legislative Assembly came out, he has been receiving complaints from many disgruntled members of the public who were outraged by the construction cost.
“Some of them even asked if the road is paved with marble blocks instead of asphalt. And some who are in infrastructure construction business said such a short length of road should not cost more than RM9 million to build.
“The present Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) Government and the Sabah Public Works Department (PWD) owed the people a full explanation on why it is so expensive,” he said.
In a statement issued here today, Chong also dismissed the explanation given by Sabah PWD Director Datuk John Anthony that the swampy land required landfill work, describing it as lame.
He contended that landfill work should not have contributed to such a high cost, given the fact that the area involved is not big.
Chong also challenged the PWD to make public its detailed account for the said project, so as to clear the doubts and suspicion of irregularities in the people’s mind.
John was quoted as saying that the construction of the road amounting to RM14.9 million was started on Oct 28, 2010 and it was expected to be fully completed in October this year.
“This swampy land requires landfill work and the contractor has only completed the landscaping, installing of street lights and building a guard post. We expect all work to be completed as scheduled,” he said.
John said the new road would help ease congestion of traffic on the road to the State Legislative Assembly building, in particular when the Sabah Administrative Centre in the area is completed.
Besides this, Chong also said the State government should have better used the said money to upgrade those roads in the interior of Sabah, some of which are in depressing condition and impassable not only for ordinary vehicles but also four-wheel-drive vehicles.
To substantiate this, he also attached a file photo showing a station wagon of the Ministry of Health which got stranded in a muddy track, during a visit to a remote village in Pensiangan, late last year.
Hopefully the Sabah government will make explanation regarding the allegations that the new road to the state legislative assembly is too expensive.
ReplyDeleteexplanation already be given by datuk john anthony...read back the article..
DeleteHeavy rain also will turn the road to the buffalo's wallow.
ReplyDeleteJadi lebih baik jika jalanraya tersebut diturap.
DeleteThe Public Works Department should also step forward to clear the air regarding the suspicion related to the projects.
ReplyDeleteactually there is no issue on this project...SAPP is misleading the people...
DeleteNo doubt about that. Sapp is trying to mislead the people into voting against the government.
DeleteThe cost is ridiculous unless the authority has relevant reasons.
DeleteSAPP want to be a hero.
DeletePlease fix the road, there so much things need to be done before the GE.
DeleteSabahan with no talented QS to make accurate estimate?
ReplyDeleteConstruction cost of normal road 1KM (per KM) will have a rough estimation of less than RM2 million as previously RM1 million is sufficient with normal condition.
Let us give them RM6 million,3 times the costs to cover for contingency what else then to include?
Suppose an official report need to be furnished and make public in newspaper
with explanation in details.
RM14 million means a lot if comparable to those few intersection projects (JKR) previously carried out along Kundasang-Sandakan link roads!
Just like rearing buffalo in condominium!
DeleteBetul2. YTL memang liabiliti.
DeleteSAPP has the potential to be a good government only IF they get rid of YTL.
DeleteYTL is definitely a liability to SAPP. IF YTL is not in SAPP, I would support SAPP.
Deletesapp ni memang susah mau dengar penjelasan. tubal kan..
ReplyDeleteThe quality of their workmanship must be there to ensure that the road is properly done.
DeleteDon't we need explanations for what is going on here?
ReplyDeleteThe government should do something about this.
ReplyDeleteKerajaan sentiasa prihatin terhadap rakyat. Pasti masalah ini sudah mendapt perhatian.
DeleteThere are things that need to be cleared regarding the allegations.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the state government will step out to clear the air.
DeleteWe beseech the government to take up this matter and fix the road.
ReplyDeleteJust wait for further explanation from the relevant parties regarding this inquiry.
DeleteNo need to worry something will be done about it.
ReplyDeletebukan semua jalan dpt dibina sekaligus.
ReplyDeleteMUngkin jalan ini di buat secara berperingkat-peringkat.. SAPP sahja mau menimbulkan isu.
ReplyDeleteThe upgrade of roads should not be delayed.
DeleteThe government is required to provide explanation in order to clear this matter.
ReplyDeleteMengenai perkara sebegini KKLW memainkan peranan mereka menyelesaikannya.
ReplyDelete0.9km = Rm14.9 million? Oh my road!
DeleteThe land is swampy so the cost will be higher.
