GE13: Majimbun warns of legal action against those spreading lies

INANAM - SAPP Deputy President Datuk Eric Majimbun, the former Sepanggar MP who is contesting the Inanam state seat in this election, warned his opponents and those of other opposition parties to stop using the dirty campaign tactic of "character assassination" on him or face legal action.

Telling reporters this when met at the party's "Ini Kalilah Bangun Untuk Sabah" campaign talk held at the township here on Tuesday night, he said he has also mobilised the party's "eyes and ears" at the ground to catch those still doing so.

He said he had been informed that campaigners from an opposition party are spreading lies alleging, among others, that he (Eric) and his party were sponsored by Barisan Nasional (BN) to split the opposition votes.

"I will sue them if I or our people at the ground catch them doing so. They are doing so because they have run out of 'modal (topic of interest)' to say to the Inanam and Sepanggar constituents.

"But to me, whatever they do they should not resort to character assassinationÉwe all should play clean," said Eric, who recorded one of the highest majority votes in Sabah with 11,461 when he won the Sepanggar parliamentary seat in 2008. Back then SAPP was contesting under BN as one of the component parties.

Eric, who served as Sepanggar MP for two terms, this time around is contesting Inanam where he faces a three-cornered fight with BN newcomer Joseph @ Paulus Lantip and Dr Roland Chia Ming Shen (PKR).

Incumbent Datuk Johnny Goh (BN), who won the seat with 1,686 majority votes in 2008, is not contesting in this election.

On his chances of winning the seat, Eric said he is confident because he also serviced this constituency during his term as Sepanggar MP.

He said the Inanam constituents are also well aware of the fact that BN only gives empty promises to the people as they have experienced it themselves.

"Even the Prime Minister himself made promises to them during his last visit to Inanam about two years or so that including to build a new community hall for Inanam which, until now, we see nothingÉ

"I have checked with City Hall which told me that the RM2 million approved by the Prime Minister for the purpose then is not enough to build a community hall building, and not even a warehouseÉit shows the 'BN Promises Fulfilled' promise tidak boleh pakai (is useless)," said Eric.

Also presenting talks were other SAPP candidates Don Chin Hon Kiong who is standing in the Sepanggar parliamentary seat, Aziz Ibrahim in Karambunai, Chong Pit Fah (Kapayan) and Yong Wee Kong (Tanjung Aru).

Party President Datuk Yong Teck Lee, who himself is contesting in the Likas state seat, was also there as the special guest.

Chin, when approached, said he believed he has 50-50 chances against his opponent from BN and is banking on the SAPP's good service record in Sepanggar constituency.

Aziz, meanwhile, said he feels very fortunate to have been selected by the party to contest in Karambunai because it gives him a chance to serve the constituents.
