Don’t speculate I don’t support Wan Azizah, says Azmin

GOMBAK- PKR deputy president Azmin Ali brushed off suggestions that he was not supportive of Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail becoming the Mentri Besar.

Describing the talk as “mere speculation,” Azmin answered to a query from reporters: “Who said so? (I don’t support Wan Azizah). Don’t speculate."

“For me, it is important to note that we are now in a crisis. In order to resolve this, we must stay united. That is our priority now,” the Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman said at the PAS Hari Raya Open House here on Sunday.

Azmin, who has been named as a possible replacement for Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, appeared evasive when queried about calls to nominate him for the post.

He dismissed a suggestion that the state executive councillors will resign over PKR's sacking of Khalid on Saturday.

“That is not true at all. Pakatan will remain strong in this crisis based on our consensus and common policy agenda. We will defend these principles,” he said.

Azmin said Khalid’s expulsion from the party was in accordance with the party's constitution.

“The decision has been made based on due process,” said Azmin, who Gombak MP.

Batu MP Tian Chua urged Khalid to step down in accordance with PKR’s decision to replace him with Dr Wan Azizah.

He explained that Khalid’s sacking was similar to that of any corporate move and he should abide by the collective decision of the party.

“Professionaly, in whatever company, when the board of directors make a decision, the General Manager or even the CEO (chief executive officer) must obey.

“If Khalid is a corporate man, he must understand that it is the same culture,” Tian Chua said at the PAS open house.
