Woman participant of 'nude games' detained by police

BALIK PULAU - Police have picked up a 34-year-old woman who participated in the nude party event in Teluk Kampi, Penang National Park, Teluk Bahang two months ago.

Southwest district police chief Supt Lai Fah Hin said the woman, a music teacher, was detained around 10pm last night at a house in the district.

He is confident that her arrest will lead to the the whereabouts of other participants, and eventually to their arrest as well.

"She will be remanded today for further investigations," he said during a press conference in the district police headquarters today.

The music teacher was amongst the 18 participants who took part in the Malaysian Nude Sports Games 2014.
The five-minute video of the event went viral after it was uploaded onto a film sharing site two months ago, causing criticisms from netizens.

The footage showed a group of people stripped down to their birthday suits before engaging in body painting and skinny dipping.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had since denied any knowledge on the nude fest and has left the matter to the police.

Police had also identified 15 out of 18 individuals seen in the video; seven Malaysians, four Singaporeans, two Myanmar nationals and one each from Philipines and India.

Lai said police have identified two key persons believed to be participants and organisers of the nude event.

He said the two are retired teacher Chew Tok Hwa,57, and Albert Yam, in his 40s.

Chew's last known residential address is 1722, Lorong Inai 6/1, Taman Ria Jaya, Sungai Petani, Kedah while the whereabouts of Yam, a Singaporean is still unknown.

Lai expressed hope that participants involved will come forward to help facilitate police investigations.

"We have recorded 16 statements and received 11 police reports," he said, adding that they have also identified the names of the participants.

The Malaysians identified are Carmen Chan, Thomas Kong, Janice, Justin Ang, Michale and Ellen.

Singaporeans identified are Kok Hong, Terry and Lionel Lau. Others are Newman and his unidentified girlfriend from Myanmar, Janes Kumar from India and Marvin Cuevas from Philipines.

Police are investigating the incident under Section 509 of the Penal Code for committing a gesture which could insult the modesty of others which carries a jailterm of up to five years or fine or both upon conviction.
