KOTA KINABALU - A 28-year-old Filipino was charged in the Sessions Court, here, Thursday, with armed gang-robbery.
Maslan Majinin, who works as a grass cutter, is accused of robbing Reafky Saidin, 22, with a machete along with an accomplice at 9.04pm on June 14, this year at Tanjung Lipat.
He initially pleaded guilty to the charge but Judge Azreena Aziz rejected his plea when he disputed the facts of the case.
Maslan claimed that the machete was not his and that it belonged to his friend, one Daud, and that he saw the latter pointed the weapon at the head of Reafky.
The court set Oct 4-5 for trial and ordered Maslan be remanded further.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Husna Abdul Halim informed the court that the prosecution has 11 witnesses.
Maslan, who was not represented, was charged under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code. – Jo Ann Mool
