Standard Kadazan language should be taught instead of alien Bundu-Liwan

KOTA KINABALU - The Kadazan Society Sabah (KSS) has insisted that the proper Kadazan should be the standard and official language to be taught in schools.

“We want Kadazan to be used as a language to be taught in schools and not Bundu-Liwan which is alien to us,” said KSS Kota Kinabalu branch chairman Aloysius Moinin yesterday.

Recently, an educationist Evelyn Annol disputed a statement made earlier by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau that an agreement was reached 30 years ago on the use of the Bundu-Liwan as the standard and official Kadazandusun Language and to be taught in school.

In an apparent support to Evelyn’s statement, Aloysius questioned the rationale in replacing the Kadazan Cultural Association (KCA) with Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA).

“Is it because they wanted to dissolve KCA which (Tan Sri Joseph) Pairin (Kitingan) knew it existed and because of how the late Michael Wong (the former assemblyman of Matunggong) mentioned about the sidelining of the Kadazan?

“Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) then came into power in 1985 and eventually had KCA changed into KDCA,” he said in a statement.

Aloysuis also cited Evelyn’s contention that there were two documents signed by KDCA and United Sabah Dusun Association (USDA).

The first document was the ‘Perjanjian Perisytiharan Bahasa Kadazandusun Sebagai Bahasa Rasmi Di antara KDCA dan USDA, which were signed by Pairin and witnessed by Datuk Wilfred M Bumburing (KDCA secretary-general) and the late Datuk Mark Koding (USDA President), witnessed by Raymond Boin Tombung (USDA secretary-general). But this document was only signed on January 24, 1995.

The second document was the ‘Persytiharan Persetujuan Dialek Bundu-Liwan sebagai dialek asas pemiawaian dan pembakuan Bahasa Kadazandusun di antara KDCA dan USDA’.

“We stress once and for all that proper Kadazan should be taught in Kadazan classes,” he said.
