KUALA LUMPUR - The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) will summon a new and final witness for the inquiry into the disappearance of Pastor Raymond Koh when proceedings resume on Dec 7.
Complaints and Monitoring Group deputy secretary Simon Karunagaram said the witness would be summoned along with Special Branch officer Awaluddin Jalid, who is reportedly on medical leave until the end of the month.
However, he declined to reveal the witness’ identity.
He said the inquiry panel had deliberated on whether to subpoena the final witness after a closed-door meeting today.
“If all goes well, the inquiry on Koh’s case will be closed,” he said when met by reporters after the meeting.
Simon said the panel had also decided to close the inquiry into Perlis activist Amri Che Mat, which ended on Oct 31 with no conclusion on his whereabouts. Amri is believed to have been abducted near his home in Kangar on Nov 24, 2016.
It was earlier reported that his case could be reopened if any new witnesses surface.
When asked about Pastor Joshua Hilmy and his wife Ruth Sitepu, who are also missing, Simon said the case would be discussed on Dec 7 as well.
“But they have not fixed a date for the commencement of the case inquiry,” he added.
Koh was abducted on Feb 13 last year in an operation caught on CCTV camera. Several men in balaclavas used black SUVs to block his Honda Accord in broad daylight in Kelana Jaya. He has not been seen since.
There was some speculation that his abduction was connected to his alleged attempts to spread Christianity. However, his family dismissed such talk as rumours.
A 31-year-old man was arrested earlier this year and charged with kidnapping Koh.
