KOTA KINABALU, Jan 16 – Local artist Andrew Ambrose Mudi, who on Saturday made headlines in the local media after a police report was lodged against him for allegedly slandering state leaders, is “childish and irresponsible”, Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said.

“Unfortunately, not everybody is equal, some are more childish than others,” Masidi told reporters when met upon arriving from Perth at Kota Kinabalu International Airport here.
On Friday, PBS Youth lodged a report against Andrew, better known as Atama, over a sketch uploaded on Facebook, which allegedly defamed PBS president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and Masidi.

Its deputy chief Webley Disim, who made the report at the Karamunsing police station here, said the movement viewed the matter seriously, stressing that the dialogue in the sketch was a lie.

The movement demanded the Tambunan-born singer to retract the sketch and apologise to those concerned, saying they would not hesitate to take court action if those involved continued to spread such lies.

Atama maintained that he lifted the sketch from a public domain online and was merely a reflection of his creativity and imagination.

Masidi said the young singer should have been more responsible in expressing his views and not take freedom of speech and expression as a license to slander others. – Bernama

  1. Actually this is a good one!
If those involved can't stand the heat let it be.

  2. PBS youth sud report to police on 81 dalil, money laundering in Hong Kong, senior Bn minister issuing genuine ic to foreigners. why the double standard.

  3. You guys can make him famous like NameWee or Namwee. he can then sell more CD and movies. Even negatives reaction from BN can spin money but only if you know how to use them. It's a win-win situation. Don't be upset by a little fun cos those 3 are even more popular now.

  5. It a nice joke!Well done Atama on your creativity. At least make the KDM awaken from their sleep. They should thank you instead of making a police report.

  9. agreed with adrose. Atama became famous for 'stealing' other peoples songs. Infact, U earned a lot of money by starting as a 'song thief' and a 'thief' will produce another end-product called 'liar'. Inilah produk hasil dri rezki yang tidak halal.

  12. Atama, you are doing a good job by exposing the weaknesses of the KDM people...which Pairin has abandoned for his own personal greed.

  22. The sad fact is PBS no longer speaks for the Kadasan people. PBS has become a stooge for UMNO. Pairin is no longer an asset to safeguard the future of the natives of Sabah. He has opted for self-interest above anything else. It is time to look for new leaders that truly have the people at heart.

  23. Sabah is a big piece of cake. The richness are given by God to the people. We used to live in peace and harmony, contented with spirit of thanks-giving. Since forming MALAYsia, the Painsular partner has gradually taken over the control. Now they are in control of Sabah's seas, lands and air and things under the ground. Sabahans are living in ICUs. You can see that when we lost the QEH we are in big havoc. Sabah's "leaders" are in fact worse then STOOGES, THEY ARE TRADING THE PEOPLE'S FUTURE FOR THEIR OWN INTERESTS. THEY ARE NOW DEAF AND DUMP, NO SENSE OF PRIDE. IF WE STILL CALL THEM LEADERS THEN WE ARE WORSE THEN THEM AND REALLY STUPID!

  24. Pbs has lost its direction, one of greed but betraying its very own people and race

  25. Setuju dengan SayangSabah. Oklah baitu. Tahniah buat Atama. Saya sangat setuju dengan sketsa lalu. Bagi saya Atama buat sketsa tu bukan keran dia terlampau BERANI TETAPI TIDAK TAHAN NAMPAK RAKYAT SAMA2 TERTIDUR BERPANJANGAN mana kala POKET SI THREE STOOGES KEMBUNG SETIAP HARI. Renung2kan dan selamat beramal hehehe...

What a creative imagination you have...
I hope you are still yourself...
Despite negative comments on your sketch...
Me as KDM is being awakened...
    We should celebrate KDM's festivals...
But not to the point we forget our destiny...

  36. Atama started off telling lies and later become a thief of songs (John Gaisah's songs). He drink too much and a fan of aramai tie in his father's house when ever he comes home from overseas. His house is protected by fierce dogs instead of seeking protection from God.

KENINGAU: Local singer Atama said yesterday he would sue a Kota Kinabalu-based recording company for RM5 million for copyright infringement, defamation and compensation for lost album sales. From 2005 to 2007, the singer said, he lost almost everything after the company produced pirated copies of his song Throw Your Hands In The Air, a song which fuses Kadazandusun elements with hip-hop. The company claimed it had the copyright on the ‘taragang rasuk’ song, which uses the late John Gaisal’s vocals.

Two years ago, it accused Atama of infringing Section 36(a) of the Copyrights Act 1987 and sought an injunction to prevent sales of Atama’s debut album My Tribal Roots. On Oct 17 this year, however, the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak dismissed the recording company’s claim as baseless.

Atama, whose real name is Andrew Mudi, said his company Atama Music Publishing (AMP) would file the suit as soon as it has identified a suitable lawyer to represent it. He said he had been subjected to physical, mental and emotional depression after being accused of copyright infringement by the recording company, and he is suing to tell the world he had been a victim of injustice. He added AMP, which produced the album, suffered millions of ringgit in lost sales in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and the USA.

Atama’s music marks a milestone in the local music scene, combining the sounds of ethnic instruments such as gongs, kulintangan and sompoton with hip-hop and R&B. Throw Your Hands In The Air has become something of a hit after being aired on local radio station Sabah VFM, and has even been used as a ring tone throughout the country. Atama said he is determined to make it in the music industry, and wants to be the first Dusun to penetrate the global music market.
