RANAU: The Sabah-based Common Interest Group Malaysia (CigMa) is of the opinion that Sabah and Sarawak have become the poorest states with the most hardcore people within Malaysia by design rather than default.
Said CigMa president Daniel John Jambun: “We are poor by design… There could be no other reason why we are reduced to be the poorest people in Malaysia while our states of Sabah and Sarawak are actually the richest in terms of natural resources including the oil and gas reserves that we have had.
Jambun made this startling remark while officiating a United Borneo Front function in Kampung Matupong here recently.
He claimed that certain group of people had willingly made East Malaysians very poor so that they are beholden to KL-based federal government which controlled almost every income derivable from all states in Malaysia including from supposedly-autonomous Sabah and Sarawak.
“When we are very poor, then it is so easy for them to control us and to manipulate us just like what is currently happening in Sarawak state election,” he said.
He blamed the people for not standing-up and being strong enough to defend their rights and ensure that their voices are heard.
Jambun said there was no reason for Sabahans and Sarawakians to be downtrodden. He said outsiders had ridden on the wealth of the states.
“Singapore has no oil and gas but its economy is bigger than Malaysia and its currency value is much higher than Malaysian ringgit.
“So is oil-rich Brunei though it is hardly an industrialised economy, still its currency value is much higher than ours, and its citizens have much much better and comfortable lifestyles than us in Sabah and Sarawak.
“This has happened because there is this perpetual evil design to make us poorest forever.
“No matter how many billions of rinngit the federal government poured in here, actually only a privileged few would really benefit and become rich and comfortable. The rest remain the poorest, without house, water, electricity, roads, schools and clinics.
“We must do something to change our situation,” he said.
Jambun also said that had Sabah and Sarawak been allowed to manage their own finances, as promised under Malaysia Agreement, the two could have been well on par, if not better, with Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and other opulent economies in the the region.

Fed-up with this BN government and equally fed-up with Musa Aman.Unfortunately in Sabah no one is qualified to replace him. Why?Because thats what Sabahans are made to believe.Only Almighty Musa is CM material. The rest.......you know I know lah.Tiada bola!
ReplyDeleteThere is lots of improvement need to be done on Sabah and Sarawak. We need to be on par with the WM.
ReplyDeleteI hope the government will continue their effort to develop Sabah and Sarawak.
ReplyDeleteThe people should also need to do something la. This is for their own good!
ReplyDeleteAlso we need the government to double up the effort to make sure that there be no more poverty issue in the future.
ReplyDeletePoor by design? I bet that's not true.
ReplyDeleteAdakah kita miskin dulu?Kemunculan PTI menggugat kita.
ReplyDeleteHope Sabah wil be much better in future
ReplyDeleteGood luck to Sabah
ReplyDeleteIt's those damn PTI that made Sabah one of poorest state in Malaysia.
ReplyDeleteAll the best to Sabah and Sarawak. I'm sure one day Sabah and Sarawak will be the richest and most developed state in Malaysia.
ReplyDeleteHow to change?Too many fence-sitter. If greed can be overcome, it's definite for Sabah & Sarawak to thrive better, but the choice of people to support their own kind but somehow being oppressed by them and yet do not realise they've lost so much for 20years. Iskandar Malaysia will be having 1.5LRT system, people at Sabah don't even have a proper transportation system. Rich people driving Ninja King, Alphard, Mercedes will not give a damn on poor people's plight as long they are enjoying life, sending their children to study at overseas and become PR. Pity for sabahan people, no point of blogging on reformation as the people are complacent with their current state.
ReplyDeleteSabah and Sarawak are poor for some reasons.
ReplyDeleteCome on, lets figure out which method is the best to solve the poverty issue in Sabah.
ReplyDeleteAdakah kita inginkan perubahan?
Ekonomi kita bukan saingan Negara Thai.
ReplyDeleteSarawak tiada masalah pendatang haram jadi bumiputra sebab tiada umno.
SAPP should know that Sabah is poor by design after 16 LONG YEARS sleeping in the same bed with BN!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to the Sabahans and Sarawakians after this.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt there is still more to improve on Sabah and Sarawak. I hope the government will work extra hard to make Sabah and Sarawak on par with the states in WM.
ReplyDeleteLuckily i go migrate to Australia but my heart still with my home town Sabah but i cannot stand with Malaysian politic...So Suckk..Rich ppl get more rich and so pity with the poor ppl
ReplyDeleteThis is why so many brain drain in this country.
