KOTA KINABALU: A huge explosion ripped through a commuter train with 200 passengers after it collided with a fuel tanker at an "unmanned'' railway crossing near a petrol station in Kepayan here. At least twelve people were seriously injured.
Most passengers scrambled out from the rear driver's compartments as they fled the inferno that spread almost immediately following the impact between the four carriages and the Shell tanker.
But 34 of the 200 passengers could not be traced though police have ascertained, as of 7.45pm, that no one else was inside the wrecked carriages.
However, a detailed search is being carried by police, firemen and Sabah Railway staff.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said the train impacted the tank section of the lorry carrying some 27,000litres of petrol as it was heading into the Shell station to deliver the fuel.
Upon impact, the first carriage derailed while the second unit landed atop the tanker that exploded at the crossing which Sabah Railways director Mohd Zin Mohd Said had classified as ``illegal.''
Hamza said at 7.45pm that there were no deaths ``as yet'' and they have detained the driver of the oil tanker for questioning while the train driver Ali Ramli, 50, escaped injuries.
Ambulances carrying the injured to the hospital were trapped in a massive traffic snarl due to motorists slowing down or stopping indiscriminately to watch the accident and the situation was further aggravated by a heavy thunderstorm.
The colonial railway is the only commercial rail line in Borneo Island that operates services from Kota Kinabalu to west coast towns and interior Tenom.
``This is the worst mishap in our history,'' said Mohd Zin.
A thick column of smoke could be seen from miles away and the mishap caused brought traffic to a virtual standstill along both busy roads.
Terrible...why?
ReplyDeleteSure more issue or protest from politics again!!!
Something wrong somehow...if you drive along some roads in KK may find some right-hand side driveway become a dead-end suddenly after the roundabout!!!
Rule here is not customary left-hand driving what hack of road planning is this by champion professional? It for sure endanger life!
the railway director says that crossing is illegal, then what the hell the god damn crossing is still there? because here is the god damn railway department led by a god damn government.
ReplyDeleteMusang bin tidak aman should resigned! He is the WORST CM in Sabah history.
ReplyDeleteThis 2nd hand train head was newly bought from china with double the costs through his nephew company.
Macam mana itu kereta api boleh langgar tanki gas?
ReplyDeleteHarap perkara ini akan disiasat sebaik mungkin.
ReplyDeleteYou should not crossing when you see the train coming....
ReplyDeleteThe lorry's driver is to be blamed.
ReplyDeleteSabah CM should be blamed. How can when the train coming but no sign or blocking from the authority to prevent any vehicle by passing that area?
ReplyDeleteMUSA AMAN SHOULD RESIGN IMMEDIATELY! HE IS SIMPLY INCOMPETENCE to be Sabah CM and MADE SABAH THE POOREST in Malaysia!
Tingkatkan keselamatan lagi. Orang awam pun kena berhati-hati.
ReplyDeleteAnother accident involving our beloved super highly tech 2nd hand china made railways in couple of month. and this time is the worst one. even worst maybe on the way. why the authority concern not just close all the so called "illegal railways crossroad" to prevent such a terrible incident occur? lucky enough this accident not cost lives. what if all the lives of the rail passenger fly? cant guess what will be the authority especially the state gov excuse. this incident will never happened if the automated gate function perfectly well. i remember once not long ago they put their staff somewhere around there to replace the malfunction gate.
ReplyDeletePemandu lori sepatutnya alert sebelum melintas laluan kereta api itu.
ReplyDeleteSabah may be the only country in the whole world where some rail crossings are TOTALLY UNMANNED and NO Gate to stop the on coming cars. Now all fingers are quickly pointed to the driver of the tanker. Can we find someone in the authority to be responsible and accountable for such mishap.
ReplyDeleteMay be the Director of Sabah Railway, and the Directors of JKR, Infrastructure, all should resign.
How moronic is that to said the CM to be blame and this is part of policital issue??!! Stupid nonsence!! Lorry driver FAULT!! The train is damn big and i'm sure everyone can hear it coming or honking when they see the lorry.

Inilah slogan...Rakyat mati dahulu, pencapaian dikemudiankan...kan kah lango?
ReplyDeleteorang kata :
ReplyDeletesediakan payung sblm hujan kan?
najib tiada nyawa terkorban kalo tidak macam mana bulih tau siapa mereka!!!
siapa2 saja bulih naik keretapi biarpun ikut laporan kata pulis 116 tikets dijualkan, kurang sya percaya ni!

Pikir-pikir saja itu Pati2 bulih lari ke sini-sana suka2 saja!Kita mesti belajar dari satu kemalangan begini je.
The reason because the illegal way build in the train runways. The illegal way is doesn't have the train guard to manage the blocking during the train came..
ReplyDeleteHarap Jabatan Kereta Api akan meneliti semula kepada perkara ini boleh berlaku. Ini demi keselamatan pengguna itu sendiri.
ReplyDeleteharap kejadian seperti ini tidak berulang lagi.
