RM50 million on 1Malaysia email only to attract 3,000 subscribers

The RM50 million Myemail email and online payment system have gathered 3,000 subscribers since going live on September 14, said service provider Tricubes Berhad.

At a media briefing in Kuala Lumpur today, Tricubes chief executive officer Khairun Zainal Mokhtar said that the figures were far behind the 5.4 million subscriber target set by the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu).

“We are targeting as many subscribers as possible, and we are optimistic of our target though Pemandu has set a 5.4 million subscribers target for us by year end,” he said.

When further pressed, Khairun said the internal forecast has been readjusted to 2 million subscribers by 2012.

Originally dubbed the 1Malaysia email service, Myemail was launched by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak back in April 19, but immediately drew flak from the public.

There were privacy concerns and whether the sum of money is justifiable, given that email services were, in most cases, free. There were also questions over Tricubes’ GN3 status.

Najib later clarified that the RM50 million was the investment put in by Tricubes in its bid for the project.

  2. To be honest,Mr Najib is only a puppet.Rosmah all along pull the string.

To the very fact that one cartoon shows potraited that Rosmah replaced Agongs on the top position then Najib and his entire cabinets line up.

Rosmah is nothing other than LUCIFER and Ahli Sihir flying on PENYAPU.

UMNO is rotten to the core because of Rosmah interference.

  7. Tricubes Berhad disenaraikan sebagai ‘GN3 Companise' dalam Bursa Malaysia. jadi, mampukah lagi syarikat ini pulih jika projek ni pun tidak berjaya?

  12. skycraper, u never know? then u are "katak di bawah tempurung". how come u never know? for this issue has been circulating t-out this country when your dearly najib announced it as one of the government initiative (before it de-announced as a private sector initiative). u must see the idris jala pemandu website snapshoot about this 1m email (blogger has upload it on their blog). After many of malaysian oppose it as a waste to the government fund plus the tricube s/b was listed G3 alert, najib come out with his correction (supported by jala) that the 1M email project is a private sector initiative without involving any cent from the government fund.

I'm asking u, re u sure? what makes u so sure? you want to say, "bcoz they said so", right.. bcoz u believe that every single thing the gov tell u "it is so" u'll believe it without asking further.

Well, we'll be happy if this 1m email not costing the gov even a cent. bcoz if it fail, the one who gulung tikar is the tricube. if otherwise then we congratulate the tricube for they are as famous as google inc. and yahoo, also even famous then the facebook. but we hope, if the tricube fail with their 1m email, the government will never need to bailout them. full-stop.
