Sabahans unity is the last thing on KL mind, says Jeffrey

By Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan

RANAU : Sabahans can be rest assured that unity among multi-ethnic Sabahans is the last thing on the mindset of Kuala Lumpur politicians, alleged chairman of the Sabah chapter of State Reform Party (STAR), Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

"Kuala Lumpur would never want us united ...

... They are most afraid if we Sabahans are united because if we are united, they could not eat us," he said in his speech launching STAR's Karanaan state constituency coordinating committee at Kampung Himbaan near here yesterday.

Alleging that Malayan leaders had the penchant of segregating people along racial and religion lines in Peninsular, they now, through their Malayan-based parties extension here have brought in the same political culture to Sabah.

"They did not want to learn from our unity here in Sabah where inter-cultural union is common... they want us disunited so they can lord over us and continue to treat Sabah as fix-deposit.

"But Sabahans now have realised KL political game and they want to take charge of their own fate and future. Sabahans realised that they could not trust outsiders to lead them and that is why more and more people rally under STAR now..." he said at the function which was attended by about 300 people.

Also in attendance yesterday were Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) suprme council member Japiril Suhaimin and USNO protem senior leader Sofea Leong Chau Chu. Ranau STAR is headed by Jalibin Paidi, a teacher, who is poised to be one of STAR candidates at the coming general election.

Dr Jeffrey also shared with the audience how then Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad told him "not to tell Sabahans what they don't know" as the epitome of Kuala Lumpur mindset and fear of people who are aware of and want to assert their rights.

Jeffrey said that was when he was about to be detained by Dr Mahathir under the draconaian Internal Security Act (ISA), allegedly for plotting by force to take Sabah away from the Federation of Malaysia.

Scores of former members of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) also handed in their application forms to Dr Jeffrey to join STAR at the function.

  1. STAR is agent for BN. It was formed just when election is looming. It's duty is simple ie bag oppositions votes then pass to BN. STAR is trying to prevent oppositions votes from going to PR. how to do that? Very simple, promote SABAH FOR SABAHAN ideology. Tell Sabahan that none of the political parties from peninsula have any interest in helping Sabahan. Think about it my friends. Vote wisely. At least PR has been tried n tested since the last election n they have been very consistent with their struggle!!!! BN neglected Sabah and treated us as step child but that does not mean PR will although they are from peninsula. We all know Jeffrey track record. This guy was a frog n chances is he will be a frog too. He is an expired politician n opportunist.

    1. Yup, and it was also known, JK record for upholding the 20 points of agreement regardless where he stands, but let us see passed through the man and straight to the ideology. Vote wisely indeed, vote for the independence of Sabah! Will your PR let Sabah rules herself like an independent country in the federation? or just like a colony, as 1 of the so called 14 states? And again, what PR consistencies you said? wasnt it Anwar of PR who brought UMNO to Sabah?

    2. 20 points agreement has been talked about since early PBS time. Why it is being brought up again now? What has JK did in between these time if he is genuine with his struggle? PR has been consistently at the fore front in opposing BN. It has nationwide network, resources, support base etc to go against giant BN. Does STAR has what it take to topple BN? Dream on JK and Yong. Just the two of these expired leader won't do any harm on BN. What I meant by PR consistency is their unwavering struggle to promote transparency, good governants, anti corruption etc. Just look at Penang for example of good governance. Look at who brought up the current RM400mil timber corruption case in Sabah. Did JK or Yong brought this up? All jk and Yong talk about was old issues. Even when they talk old issues, it remain as mere talk talk talk. There is no political will or action to see it materialise. Did Jk n Yong talk about BERSIH? LYNAS ? Cow gate ? Aren't these issue relevant ? The very least Jk should do if he is genuine is to work with PR because BN is too cunning n strong for STAR N SAPP to face.

    3. Why talk about Sabah autonomy, Sabah for Sabahan etc when this is not even within reach??? Kick out BN from state n federal first!!! Get our priority right. Is time we look at how peninsula state like Penang and Sel being govern. Did we hear Penang for penangite only? How come Penang prosper when such territorial mentality was not even an issues? Lim guan eng is not a penangite too. So why our local politician like Yong and Jk can think nothing but Sabah for Sabahan, self rule blah blah blah? They are being selfish that all ? All Sabah CMs were and is Sabahan. Does that mean Sabah is now a better state as compared to other states? Look at the bigger picture, do away with the katak di bawa tempurung mentality. Work with PR is the way forward. Beware of Jk. He is working with his brother pairin to ensure BN and kitingan era remain in power.

    4. As usual another PR supporter who refuse to understand how Malaysia was formed in 1963. They think they can just wipe Sabah & Sarawak histories under the carpet.

JK & YTL were right to point out that PR, if elected to form the next Federal Government, will be just like BN treating Sabah & Sarawak as one of the 14 states within the Federation.

PR always like to talk about transparency, good governants etc. but when it comes to Malaysia Agreement, 20 points, autonomy they all remain silent and defiant. Very similar to BN attitude.

I bet even the Cabotage Policy will still be enforced under PR.

    5. You are another die hard supporter of JK n YTL who can't see beyond your territorial mindset.
Without PR we can never get rid of BN. With BN in power you can forget about 20 points agreement, PATI, cabotage etc. Be realistic, we can only talk about 20 points when BN is out. Until then work with PR, there is no two way about it!!!

    6. It is PR who doesn't want to work with UBA. It is PR who prefer to brand all non-PR parties BN agents.

This sort of mindset show arrogance, self-interest and greed for power...not much difference with current BN government.

    8. Sabah is not equal to Penang, period! Go and study your history well on the Formation of Malaysia. And why vote PR when we can kick both BN and PR out of Sabah? And there you say its not within reach? MLK once said, i have a dream, and there now in the States sits Barrack Obama as the most powerful man in the world, eventhough it took years, after the psssing of MLK, because its not the about the man but its all about his ideology of which cant be killed.. and you say you don't dare to dream? It seems you are the one having katak dibawah tempurung mentality.. Talking about Lynas, NFC etc.. Its Malayan affairs, why dont we focus on getting Sabah out of Malaysia? PR is not the wayforward, INDEPENDENCE of Sabah is the WAYFORWARD!

    10. Of course Penang n Sabah are different in many ways just like company A & company B. but then the fundamental management of a company remain the same. Ensure no mismanagement, keep cost under control, cash flow control etc. This is where Sabah need a CEO like lim guan eng from PR. If Sabah under self rule, would you guarantee there is no corruption and power grab ? Can we overcome PATI issue now that their numbers are about the same like us? Do we have the military power to ensure security etc. We must get our priority right. We need to kick out BN now. To do that we need PR. When things stabilised then only we can talk about self rule. Rom did not created in one day. Think about it. But I think ppl with katak di bawa tempurung won't be able to think that far. Evil come in many disguise. Vote carefully.

    11. Sabah or Penang is not a company, but a country and a state. You cant compare an apple with a tree of apples. And managing a country is not like managing a company. The fundamental of managing a company is to generate revenue and profit, while the fundamental of managing a country is to sustain the living of the people, i.e Maslow hierarchy of needs. Managing a country does not necessarily needs cashflow, but enough with commodities flow,. Sabah does not need CEO, Sabah needs someone like Gandhi or Mandela to unite and change the people hearts and minds. Military power? we have the UN, the British, the Americans, ANZAC (Australia, New Zealand). PATI issue? Restore the immigration authority of Sabah Gov as per 1963, Corruption? Power grab? Kick BN and PR out of Sabah! The real KATAKs can't think beyond their PR masters, so short sighted, we talking about taking the world, and all they care about is licking their masters ass..

    12. It is not that PR not willing to work with UBA. PR knows who is behind UBA and they up to. Besides conditions set by UBA are nothing but show how selfish n greedy they are. PR will not remain relevant n stronger by day if it is run by fool n foot licking short sighted jk supporter like u. It is people like you who think running a government very different than a company that causes Sabah economic to go down south all these years. It may not be exactly the same, but fundamentally they are the same. Transparency, competency, clean, accountability etc are all the shared value of good management. Only when a state economically sounds then the welfare of the people will prospers. Of course a territorial short sighted frog like you can't understand even the very basic of such matter. All u can think of is how to self rule and help yourself lining your own pocket at the same time. It is ppl with such mentality Sabah will never progress n stable politically.

    13. Learn to see beyond the man and straight to the ideology, of which the above seem can't seem to grasp, broaden your mind and please go and read more, a man may falter or jump ship, but the ideology remains regardless of the vessel. Its not JK that we supposed to support, he is just the current vessel, go beyond and seek the higher caused, the idea of being able to self rule. How to manage a country is not how we manage a company, there are not the same, there is no democracy in a company as the company governs by chain of command, management and stakeholder, no voting, no choice nor full autonomy. Who cares how the company runs as long as they make profit out of it, and the stakeholders are happy. In a company, can the management say anything if the stakeholders are not accountable, nor transparent, or competent? Not the same with a country, we only seek for sustainability and equilibrium, everyone with a role, no management, no stakeholders role, everyone has claim and stake, running a country is not like what Adam Smith put in his book, the Wealth of Nations, which maximizes the profit regardless of the method. Talking about shared values, it has to be moral values, hell, even corruption is shared values if everyone practices it, so the concept of shared values is not practical here, but moral cultural values. And a wealthy state are define by their economic values, not financial values like what you are referring to, one could be very wealthy in the financial books, but are not sustainable as the sold everything to maximize their profits. People are happy not because they have a day to eat, but having food everyday for generations. And to achieve that, one must be independent, autonomous and able to govern or self rule. But I guessed you can even differenciate between economic values and financial values eh? ahem, seems like you need to learn more, as of not you are what the Malayan says kurang ajar? Again, look beyond the trees and see the forest. PR is the tree, INDEPENDENCE is the forest. Sabah is more than capable to govern and self rule without PR. PR can can get out of Sabah, BN can get out of Sabah, and Sabah will still PREVAIL!

No need to talk so far if we can't work with the best to kick BN out of Sabah. arm chair critic from our local opposition will not get things done. Without PR our local boys can only do so much. Most if not all our past n present CM are nothing but vacumn cleaner n yet you are talking about self rule. Sabah will be chaos will leader like jk and gang. You failed to see the fundamental aspect of good governance which is equitable to running a successful company as well as a state. Tell me how STAR N SAPP can beat BN alone?

    15. STAR a BN AGENT OR INDEPENDENCE FORCE?

IF STAR is an agent of BN then STAR or BN are not doing themselves any favours to incite Sabahan independence fervour which is now so widespread in Sabah and Sarawak.

At best STAR is a coalescing of the pent up desires of Sabahans to be free from foreign Kuala Lumpur rule.

The internet has allowed this to burst forth from the ISA restrains and now it is in the open.

We are in many ways free from the fears of speaking out for our rights under the Malaysia and 18/20 Points Agreements.

It is true that most Sabah CMs and political parties have been only agents of UMNO BN for the plunder and stripping of Sabah wealth and disenfranchisement of born and bred Sabahans with illegals.

In doing so they have been breaking up the promises and terms and conditions of the aforesaid agreements.

If STAR leaders are to be true to their announced aspirations they must lead the Sabah people to a better and brighter future OUTSIDE Malaysia for its own national independence.

Malaya needs Sabah and Sarawak for their resources more than either colonies need Malaya!

49 years show we have no future in partnership with Malaya. Neither greater autonomy or change of government will change our colonial status.

      Our destination in national independence.

    16. Devil comes in many disguise. Just like Perkasa, Pekida, STAR seem to whack BN but you will notice they are formed just for coming election. The issues they choose to whack BN are nothing but old issues that has been brought up time n again by PBS. STAR knows such issues will not gain momentum. STAR is formed to divert oppositions votes from PR to STAR/UBA. They are playing sabah for sabahan sentiment so that as to win the trust of sabahan opposition voters. This way, opposition votes that might go to PR will then go to STAR/UBA. You will see their true color after election. STAR/UBA will swing back to BN with their bagful of oppositions votes like what previous Katak did during PBS time which was led none other than JK the Jackall. YTL & JK are opportunist of the highest level. They have been given plenty opportunity to bring out the 20 points and PATI issues when they were in office, but they failed because they were in power then. Why talk now when these guys are out of office? Smell new opportunity coming perhaps?

    17. Freeing KL rule? This sounds like a step to soon to talk to.

It is achievable vision but why not talk about how to beat the ass out of BN first?

Until BN is out, freeing KL rule is just wishful thinking.

KL rule is not that bad, it was BN who make it bad by not following the 20 point agreement.

A lot will say PR is the lesser devil of BN, but then can we trust our corrupt local leaders.

      Delete
    18. KL rule is bad because Sabah and Sarawak leaders cannot make decisions on their own.

Everything related to big money and power must report to KL-based ruler.

KL still wants to control and take all profits and revenue from Sabah and Sarawak natural resources and other profitable economic activities.

In the end, Sabah and Sarawak remain under-developed and the poorest in the country.

    19. Talk about the 'katak di bawah tempurung mentality'? Can even differenciate between governing a country and a company. And why underestimate Sabahans capability to develop and govern themselves? Sabahans are more capable, just have confidence! And again, its about the idea of independence, not about JK and gang. FYI, STAR was not formed without prior consideration. But in order to realised the idea, a vessel is needed and that current vessel is UBF > STAR > UBA, and not PR nor BN. And yes, STAR and SAPP could not do anything much, no where near beating BN, but if all Sabahans united as one, we could do more, not just kicking BN, or PR, but Malaya out of Sabah!

  2. Couldn't agree more. Sabah have always been ruled by Sabahan in one way or another. But we are more backward than ever now if compared to USNO time. Our local politicians are very corrupt worst they work hand in hand with federal govrnt to rape our state. Look at the low unemployment n high inflation now. How many can afford to buy even a decent house in Kk now? Our youngsters have to go kl, Johor, sin and elsewhere to seek job. Worst still look at the PATI issue now. It is already out of control.

  3. Even if Sabah is under self-rule it still does not guarantee state's wealth will not be eaten up by corrupt local politicians. We already have a vacuum cleaner under BN rule. If under self rule we might have a bigger vacumn cleaner!!!!! What is more important is not self rule, but good governance. Look at Penang, the state is not under self rule, but it perform better than all other states under BN. Even if Sabah under self rule, can state government be able to kick out all PATI without problem?
If our local politician have the will n guts to solve PATI issues, they would have done so by now? Don't tell me the state government cannot do anything alone without the federal help. We can have BERSIH PATI movement if we are genuine with our struggle.

    1. Don't underestimate Sabah self-rule.

If Sabah was truly independent, they will be no racism, no official religion, no PATI just like Singapore.

Just like Singapore, no corrupt politicians too unlike Malaya.

    2. Self rule or not, now is not the right time to talk. It can remain a vision but how to get there is more important now!!! Get rid of BN first then Sabahan can decide if they want to self rule through referendum. I believe PATI will resist any action to topple BN. Jk is getting the priority wrong by talking about self rule. How to when opposition parties can't even agree to pact!!!

    3. Why is it issues that matter most to Sabah & Sarawak are always secondary like "not the right time to talk" ?

JK priorities for Sabah are true, correct and long overdue. UBA is getting more support from the people but PR is losing support each day.

Even now, Sabah BN wants to start to debate on Sabah's self-rule.

If you want to see BN topple, better work with UBA now.
