Star: 5Km road in Ranau passable only by motorbikes

RANAU : The State Reform Party (Star) head of Ranau division has challenged Keranaan assemblyman Masidi Manjun to put meaning to the government slogan of "1Malaysia, People First, Performance Now" by immediately upgrading an important 5 kilometer road here.

"This slogan must be applied in solving our own perennial local poblem. Please upgrade or asphalt the road that connect Kampung Pahu and Kampung Mohimboyon and Kampung Lipantai," said Jalibin in challenging the veteran Masidi in a statement here today.,

Jalibin said the 5km road has been in poor condition for quite sometime and passable only by motorcycles now as the government failed to maintain it for years, what more to upgrade it.

“If this road is tarred, many in Ranau especially within Keranaan area where Masidi is the representative. People from as far as Kampung Tudan and Kampng Himbaan would also benefit from it.

"Even people from Masidi's own birthplace Kampung Terelobou would finally benefit from a good road, not like now what they endure is sheer shame and pain," said Jalibin.

According to Jalibin, much needed to be exposed and said in Ranau and that he would like to highlight them not because of the looming general election but the people have suffered long enough and he would not want UMNO leaders to squat on them.

He further claimed that for now all road users from Tudan areas up to Pahu have no choice but to use a longer route via Bundu Tuhan or the Randagong Road to reach Ranau township.

"If the 5kkm stretch is asphalted our people will not only travel easily but more time and money will be saved. This is what we call "people first" if the ruling party understands what we mean," he said.

Jalibin also questioned the local leaders priority when they went ahead first with the water pipe supply project than the road. "Not that we don't want water supply but currently almost all of the affected kampungs already have enough gravity water supply, what we need is the upgrading of our roads.

"Perhaps, the water pipe can come later... This water project takes millions of people's ringgits, they should upgrade our road first," he insisted adding that the government of the day did not consult the rakyat first but only prioritise profits to be shared among favoured contractors and UMNO politicians.

Jalibin questioned the logic of spending so much public money in putting up so many "Tak Nak Merokok signboards, building cabin school classes, solar electricity in schools, and the erection of giant water tanks to so-called harvest rain water for rural schools.

Meanwhile, a kampung folk from Tudan, Imi Bansinai, agreed with Jalibin that the road mentioned was much needed  for upgrading as it is in very poor conditioned pasable only by motorcycles now.

"Jalibin made a brave suggestion here, as if nothing is done to attract he attention of politician from the ruling party, soon the road might not be passable even by motorcycles," Bansinai said adding that what Jalibin said was the peoples' own voice..

  1. HOW MALAYA USES OUR OIL MONEY & HOW EAST TIMOR USES ITS MONEY- WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

    By Sara Everingham
    ABC NEWS

    East Timor has won praised from the World Bank for its achievements since Independence from Indonesia in 2002.

    Posted May 19, 2012 12:49:03

    East Timor will tomorrow commemorate its 10th anniversary since independence from Indonesia, and the World Bank says there are plenty of reasons to celebrate.

    World Bank country manager in East Timor Luis Constantino says East Timor has done an amazing job in just 10 years, with the child mortality rate halved since the country won its independence.

    Audio: Listen to the World Bank's Luis Constantino (AM)
    "What you can accomplish in 10 years is absolutely impressive," he said.

    "I mean, 10 years ago the country was completely destroyed and right now they were able to cut infant and child mortality by half.

    "They have gains in health and education. They are one of the fastest economies in the world and they have a peaceful society. So I think it's quite amazing actually."

    But the country still faces major economic challenges, with many still living in poverty.

    Mr Constantino says progress on that front has been made.
    "There's been a lot of progress compared to what we usually achieve in post conflict countries," he said.

    "Timor has actually moved much faster than others, particularly if you take into account that in 2006 there was a setback.

    "It always takes some time to accomplish these things. You cannot achieve poverty reduction - absolute reduction - from one day to the next.

    "A country needs to develop it's economy, create jobs, build infrastructure, so progressions will be gradual."

    Mr Constantino says the biggest challenges facing East Timor are the move to becoming a middle-income country and how to spend the country's plentiful oil revenue.

    He also says the country will need to create alternative industries to the oil sector in order to grow the economy.

    In this year's budget East Timor's government announced it would step up its spending from its petroleum fund.

    Mr Constantino says it is a wise decision given how there are still large gaps of poverty.

    "I think it's appropriate to use oil money to improve standards of living for people and improve services to the people," he said.

    "This has to be done in a prudent form, however, it's not easy to spend money well - you need to have institutions capable of delivering good projects on the ground and so there is several constraints in that."

    2. DO U MEAN IN SABAH?

      OUR OIL HAS BEEN STOLEN & TAKEN TO MALAYA FOR OVER 35 YEARS & WE GOT ONLY 5% ROYALTY & THE GRAND TROPHY OF BEING THE POOREST STATE IN "MALAYSIA"

      LOSS 95% OIL INCOME = UNDER-DEVELOPMENT OF SABAH?

      SO DOES THAT CONNECT?

      MAKES SENSE

  2. Yes.Independence is the answer. Sabah will manage better on her own.

    1. START WITH OUR OIL LIKE EAST TIMOR- CAN YOU BELIEVE WITHIN 10 YEARS THEY ACHIEVED WHAT INDONESIA FAILED IN 25 YEARS OF COLONIZATION?

      We have 49 years of Malayanization and what have we got or achieved? And where has all the 95% oil royalties disappeared? Refer to various articles by Daniel Jambun in Wikisabah News.

      At independence East Timor regained control of its oil and they did not behave like the UMNO BN crooks... (hope not!)

      Sabah and Sarawak lost control of their oil by 1976 and we became crippled economies because of the large scale plunder and corruption and unfair taxes and cabotage. All the wealth drained out to develop Malaya! We became the least develop parts of Malaysia!

      Independence and a determination to build up our country with our rich resources is the only way!

      First we have to get rid of the Malayan colonizers!

    2. Sabah needs autonomous power and Borneonisation, we can be independent with self governing.

      Delete
    3. Even if Sabah is on its own, without good leadership, nothing will change.

      Delete
    4. Do not be overly dependent on Oil & Gas. We have to look at other alternatives for energy and industries for income. Good leaders don't just appear, they have to grow like plants.

      Delete
    5. WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHAT "INDEPENDENCE" MEANS.

      IF Sabah is independent then it is not in Malaysia Federation and not ruled by Malayans. Only then there true "Borneonization" can take place.

      If Sabah is only having "autonomous power" then it is still in Malaysia Federation under Malayan rule. Sabah wealth will still be "shared" by Malaya- so is this fair? Remember we were supposed to be equal partners in Malaysia! We end up being the banker for Malaya! Malaya never gave us anything from Malaya. In fact they took our money and gave some back to us and make themselves look generous!@ This is real Malayan bohong!

      Hope that makes it clear what we want or what you want!

  3. INCLUDE SARAWAK IN PETITION...?

    Hi the petition should include Sarawak as it shares similar issues and history.

    Assume you are providing a historical background. These are some humble suggested points to be developed:

    They could touch on many subjects such as:

    1. the initiation of the Malaysia proposal and process carried out by Britain and Malaya in the formation of Malaysia, (dished out to Brunei Sabah and Sarawak..)

    2. the dominant role and motives of the British and Malayan governments,
    their political rationales and unfair tactics used to justify formation of Malaysia – such as the cold war arguments of joint security against the threat of foreign invasion and spread of communism, which were used to psychologically pressurised and sway a politically naïve population into agreeing with their idea,

    3. the colonial power's iron determination to form Malaysia despite major international and local opposition expressed in the Brunei anti-Malaysia Independence uprising in Dec. 1962 and the Sarawak independence guerrilla war from 1962 to 1990s;

    4. the British use of the UN to endorse and legitimise Malaysia;
    the lack of good faith, transparency and honesty in the hasty implementation of the Malaysia concept on a politically inexperienced Borneo people,
    the failure of the colonial power to properly comply with UN de-colonization independence procedures such as holding an UN supervised independence referendum,

    5. the lack of proper mechanisms and UN supervision to oversee the transition and implementation of the Malaysia Agreement;
    6. disregard of the people's real aspirations and proposal to unify Brunei Sabah and Sarawak for independence,
    7. the people's expressed fears that they will become dominated by the Malayans in terms of jobs and other spheres of life;

    8. whether Malaysia is just a federation of 3 states in an equal partnership,

    9. whether Malaysia ceased to exist and the Malaysia Agreement is not binding on Sabah and Sarawak when Singapore left the union in 1965,

    10. whether the Malaysia Agreement has been repudiated by the Malayan government by its non-observance of the Agreement.

    If you are interested in independence for Sabah, please sign the petition. It may not seem important to some but at least it gives us an idea in terms of numbers no matter how small. It also doesn't matter which political party you support. Things will be worked out once it is known what the majority desires. This is also an opportunity for our Sarawak cousins to kick start their own petition if they too desire independence. Thank You!

  6. Anonymous, thanks for the advice. I will look into it and try to refurbish the petition as best I can.
