On SAPP's peaceful protest at KK High Court

By Amde Sidik

First of all, I wish to clarify that SAPP's peaceful protest is against the authorities proposal to convert the five sites (KK High Court, State Library, Chong Tain Vun Park, the Women and Children Clinic and the City Hall Building) in the city centre for commercial development.

It was however not reported accurately in a local newspaper that says "SAPP protests move to relocate courthouse".

SAPP has said that it wants the land to be retained only for public purposes, if the said buildings were moved elsewhere.

The main objective of the protest was to warn the authorities and to inform the public that enough is enough that public spaces around the city have been acquired for commercial development, in particular, for shopping complexes and hotels, alike.

SAPP members were protesting against the use of space for commercial activities, otherwise, without public spaces available, living in the city is very much like living in Alcatraz.

  1. Are they going to get what they want for doing the protest? I am sure they only will creating chaos.

    2. IS IT CHAOS TO EXERCISE YOUR DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS AGAINST ARBITRARY DECISIONS BY THOSE IN POWER & WHO MONOPOLISE POWER & GOT ELECTED BY FRAUD?

If those who want to benefit privately by re-locating public amenities then these are the real creators of chaos.

This is seen in the Federal Gov't attempt to take over Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur for their own sinister self enriching purposes of denying local residents and business people who have been using the location there for a over century....

But when the people protested-they backed off.

This is a good example of people's power.

Sabahans do not back down or fail to assert your democratic rights which have been compromised by the traitors who bow to Kuala Lumpur.

It is also our democratic right plus UN Declared right to claim back our independence!

    3. SEE ABOVE COMMENTS- OBVIOUSLY YOU DON'T MIND HAVING YOUR CITIZEN & DEMOCRATIC RIGHT TAKEN AWAY!

IN THAT CASE YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE NO RIGHT TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT ANYTHING!

But you realise that at the moment you can speak out because of the internet and the "V" for "Vendetta" factor. If everyone speak out and take action to challenge and demonstrate their unity against bad things then we are not just slaves accepting every dictate of those despots in power!

Sabahans- stand up for your rights!

Keep up your independent spirit of challenging/questioning the authorities lack of transparency and accountability for their autocratic decisions!

If you don't speak out you have no rights!

    4. Demonstration does not necessary show your democratic right, sure it's your freedom if you want to join in the protest, but other people may have different opinions about democracy. Voting is a democratic right, but I see there are many Malaysians above the age of 21 still not register as voters.

Not register as voters= Don't mind having their citizens and Democratic rights taken away

      Not joining demonstration= Personal choice

    5. Arm chair critics who sits at home criticizing during election day are those who did not embrace their democratic rights. They can voice out their opinions on the government or on the country all day long but without going out to vote when they should, all these talking are just empty talks.

Speak out but not vote is just wasted breath.

    6. Demonstration is required for several reasons:

      1. First and foremost, it is a right of expression.

      2. People are united for a political reason

      3. It is show of people's power

      4. When there are no other peaceful avenues peaceful demos have to do like the Bersih "sit-in".

      5. You are free to join or just watch -that is a choice

      6. It is better than being an arm chair critic

      7. Demos reflects the lack of democracy in neo-colonial Malaysia.

      8. If there had been no demo would the news of the issues be impressed on many arm chair critics since UMNO is not going to publicise it for you. In fact they like the critics are happy for the issue ot go away quietly.

  4. As reported by news of the day's event majority of those turn up were SAPP members or few only in legal profession.

What good for the purpose as we cannot see many include lawyers or association or those who may sound more professional do not come forward to voice their standing or opinion?

Could this be the reason that they feel is not positive enough or so scare to involve with common behavior or 'tidak apa' attitude of many Sabahan just like other matter they were fooled for years after independence?

Or many feel 'silent is golden' than to challenge the authority?

Just cannot understand such typical Sabahan even Today in 2012!

    1. LAWYERS & POLITICIANS DOING THE RIGHT RIGHT TO LEAD BY EXAMPLE!

Why some of you deny our democratic right to protest?

Why don't you guys protest about the "dirty" Datuk who has been vandalising public places with "1Malaysia" signs to show his slave mentality of sucking up to his KL masters???

Do you support vandalism & Malayan colonialism? Why show your loyalty to a foreign master in Kuala Lumpur?

Ha? How do you answer? Defend your statement!

Even if they are just "a few" SAPP members and or lawyers they have the democratic right as citizens to express their views.

Since we are ruled by dictators who make arbitrary decisions we only know of their decisions after they make it without consultation of those concerned.

They have deprived us of our right by ignoring our views from the way they forced us into "Malaysia" since the 1960s. We cannot let this go on!

Sabah Lawyers and member of SAPP and also STAR we support you in defending our rights.

Please don't waste time competing with each other. We cannot bear another 50 years of UMNO dictatorship and plunder of Sabah.

We want you all to unite and fight UMNO for an independent Sabah (outside Malaysia)!
