49 years ... but villagers yet to feel true development

KOTA BELUD, September 25, 2012: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Kadamaian CLC chairperson, Agnes Liewpin hit out at the BN government for letting the Kampung Melangkap Baru villagers suffer for not taking action to repair badly damaged suspension bridge in Kampung Melangkap Baru.

Villagers had been waiting anxiously for the government to take action as this bridge is an important means of transport for the villagers to cross over to their agricultural lands on the other side of the river to tend to their crops like padi and rubber.

Since applying to the authorities and the local YB through their village head, villagers revealed that the same lame excuses that the government does not have enough funds or allocation to repair the bridge concerned.
The villagers were forced to fork out their own money and carry out gotong-royongs to make the bridge passable. Water current is strong during heavy rains and it is still highly dangerous to do a crossing via the bridge which is unstable.

Agnes Liewpin was with SAPP Kg Melangkap protem branch chairman Daniel Kassim, during the visit and inspection.

"Sabah country has been independent 49 years, but the villagers are yet to feel the true meaning of the development that has been expressed through the empty slogans. Where is the promise echoed by the BN government in the slogan 'People First, Performance Now' and 'promises are kept'?" Agnes questioned.
