Abandoned foetus found near temple

PUTATAN - The discovery of an abandoned foetus yesterday had answered the questions surrounding a mysterious woman said to have lurked around the bushes near a Chinese temple in Kampung Tebongon.

The stillborn was discovered around 5pm by curious villagers who were wondering what the lone woman was doing in such a place.

A source disclosed that several people, who were heading to town here, saw the woman doing something in an area between a stream and the temple.

“The villagers quickly notified the Kampung Tembongon village head who later went to the area to do an inspection. They found freshly dug soil and started digging,” said the source.

To their shock, they found a foetus without an umbilical cord wrapped in a white cloth. They immediately notified the police here of their discovery.

Meanwhile, Penampang district police chief DSP Ratan Kumar Singh, in confirming the case, said they were tracking down the parents of the foetus.

“To date, no arrest has been made and we will be investigating the case under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing birth,” he said.

He urged those with information on the case to come forward or contact them at 088-712222, or any nearby police stations, to facilitate investigations.
