Pakatan Sabah to form shadow cabinet

Opposition elected representatives to closely monitor all 11 ministries in the state

KEPAYAN: Pakatan Rakyat Sabah will be setting up a shadow cabinet to closely monitor the state government’s performance for the next five years.

The shadow cabinet will be headed by the opposition members of the state’s elected representatives, said Pakatan-friendly Pertubuhan Pakatan Perubahan Sabah (PPPS) president Lajim Ukin.

The former Beaufort MP who narrowly lost to BN’s Azizah Mohd Dun said opposition state assembly reps had discussed and agreed to appoint an opposition whip for the coming state assembly sitting.

Speaking to reporters after chairing PPPS’ supreme council meeting on Friday, the Klias assemblyman said that they had discussed this at the state and federal level.

He was also convinced that Pakatan in Sabah has enough elected representatives to monitor all 11 state ministries.

There are 12 opposition elected representatives in the state assembly, of which 11 are from Pakatan Rakyat and one from Sabah STAR.

“Each opposition elected representative will be assigned a ministry to monitor. We hope Sabah STAR chief cum Bingkor assemblyman, Jeffrey Kitingan will work with us on this.

“We have also discussed our responsibilities in the shadow cabinet, we will hold pre-council daily before the state assembly sitting to discuss issues to bring up and debate,” he said.

“We will be submitting the name(s) to the Pakatan Rakyat leadership and I believe the decision will be made soon,” he added.
