Sinkhole causes massive jam

RANAU: A sinkhole in the middle of a two-way lane caused massive traffic jam at Kilometre 1 Ranau-Telupid road, near Kampung Marakau, here early yesterday morning.

The 8am incident had stranded many vehicles coming from both directions for a few hours, while some vehicles were forced to turn back to where they came from.

However, no unwanted incident was reported.

Ranau police chief DSP Abdul Rahman Kassim said the incident had caused traffic jam stretching more than 30km starting from Kundasang.

Public Works Department staff have been deployed to the location to carry out repair immediately.

“Several traffic police are also at the scene to control traffic flow and at the moment, we have not received any unwanted incident report,”he said yesterday.

According to Abdul Rahman, continuous rain since Wednesday is believed to have caused the sinkhole.

He urged road users at the location to stay calm and be patient as the authorities were doing their best to repair the road.
