PENAMPANG - Two schoolgirls were killed when the Honda motorcycle they were on collided with a Toyota Avanza along Jalan Ketiau-Tombovo near Kg Tansau, here, Saturday.
Juan Jun Gabriel and Noriah Datu Kadir, both 17, were believed to have died on the spot after they were thrown several feet from their motorcycle, while the 49-year-old Avanza driver escaped unhurt.
District Police Chief DSP Ratan Singh Kumar said preliminary investigations showed that the duo, both students of SMK Tansau, were heading towards Ketiau from SMK Tansau when they collided with the Avanza which was heading out of Ketiau towards the main road during the 10.15am incident.
Noriah was believed to have lost control of the motorcycle, causing the machine to veer into the opposite lane and collided with the car.
Their remains have been sent to the hospital for post mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transportation Act 1987.
He urged those with information on the accident to come forward to facilitate investigations, adding that the Avanza driver has been brought in for questioning.
