LDP Crisis: 'Suspended' VK Liew cannot contest

KOTA KINABALU - The rebel faction in Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) led by its Secretary-general Datuk Teo Chee Kang has removed the name of its embattled president Datuk VK Liew from the list of proposed candidates for the president post.

In a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Kepayan today, Chairman of Election Committee Yong Wui Chung disclosed that they had received nominations for Liew but it was rejected.

“It was rejected on grounds that Datuk V K Liew’s membership has been suspended pending a decision by the disciplinary committee,” he said.

Yong who took over after Teo’s supreme council removed Datuk Tan Sui Fu explained this when asked if Liew would be able to contest.

In the list provided by the committee, three names appeared as the possible candidate for the president post namely, Datuk Teo Chee Kang, Datuk Chin Su Phin and Lim Kai Min.

Both Teo and Chin were also nominated for the deputy president post together with Datuk Lim Ming Hoo and Datuk Pang Yuk Ming who has been appointed acting deputy president in Liew’s camp.

Yong also disclosed that for the five elected vice president posts, there were 19 names including Karamunting Assemblyman Charles O Pang, Datuk Pang Yuk Ming, Chin Shu Ying, Albert Kok, Peter Chong Su Leong, Yong Thau Heung, Datuk Lim Ming Hoo, Major Datuk Peter Chin and Datuk Kwan Wing Hung.

For the supreme council member posts, a total of 82 candidates have been proposed.

For the wanita chief post, four candidates have been proposed namely Chin Mee Ping, Datin Shim Nyat Yun, Datin Margaret Chong Mui Ling and Jennifer Chan Yee Nan.

As for the Youth chief post, seven names have been proposed namely, Dexter Lim, Chia Butf Shan @ Chiang Bhat Sing, Tsang Hieng Yee, Kwan Tze Wai, Lo Katt Haw, Alex Lo Koi Hau and Lim Young Peing.

Yong also pointed out that the consent and acceptance form must be signed by the nominees and submitted to the party headquarters by 12pm on Oct 12(Saturday).

“Due to short notice, outstation nominees other than in Kota Kinabalu are allowed to fax or email to the party headquarters but the original copy must reach the party headquarters by Oct 16 (Wednesday),” he explained.

He further noted that all the divisions would receive notification for Nomination Acceptance by fax or email together with the full list of nominations and standard copy of consent and acceptance form.

“Nominees requiring clarifications could contact acting Executive Secretary, Peter Lo,” he added.
