KOTA BARU - The woman who whipped up a furore after a video of her flogging the alleged rapist of her 13-year-old daughter went viral over the Internet has been arrested. The 38-year-old woman was detained along her with husband, 40, and son, 22.
State CID chief Asst Comm Lai Yong Heng said all three were arrested at their home in Kampung Gong Bayor, Kampung Raja, Terengganu, at 9pm.
“They were picked up by a CID team from the Kelantan police contingent and have been put under remand for seven days.
“They are suspects under the law for allegedly causing grievous hurt to two men. This is a serious crime and it is natural for the police to act and investigate the case,” said ACP Lai in an interview here yesterday.
The police, he added, were doing their duty to uphold law and order despite the public having expressed sympathy and support for the woman and her family.
The 37-second clip had shown the woman flogging one of the men, a 28-year-old, whose hands and legs were tied up and pants pulled down to expose the buttocks.
She was seen using what had looked like a stick or a cane to hit the man on his backside, body and head and scolding him as a crowd watched on.
The incident was reportedly recorded at Pantai Seri Tujuh, Tumpat, at about 5pm on Thursday. The man, who suffered welts on his buttocks, hands and face, had earlier been caught by the woman’s son and husband, who subsequently turned him in to the police. Police had to send him to the Universiti Sains Hospital in Kubang Kerian after he suffered a blood clot in his head but was later discharged.
He was arrested along with another man in connection with the rape of the girl in Tawang, Bachok, on May 22.
The other man, 22, had earlier also been assaulted by a group of people before being handed over to the police.
Both men were alleged to have raped the teenager several times in a house.
