Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek said traders were required to sell the affected items based on the stipulated price and to tag them with the special pink tags during the period.
The items included live chicken, standard chicken, super chicken, bone-in local mutton, imported bone-in and boneless lamb, imported bone-in lamb thigh, Grade A, B and C chicken eggs, tomato and green Bengal chili, he said.
He said 89 districts in the peninsula, 32 districts in Sarawak and 27 districts in Sabah would be involved in the scheme and warned traders that firm action would be taken against those who failed to comply with the regulations.
He said the price might vary according to zones, but generally, the prices were set based on local market prices.
"If the area is quite far from town areas, the price may be slightly higher," he told a media conference after a walkabout at the Tamu Market here Friday.
Meanwhile, Hasan said turkey was not in the list of items under the festive price control scheme this time around due to some technical problems.
"The company which handles the import of the bird with a company from Australia has some technical problem, so, we removed turkey from the price control scheme list this year.
"However, we are discussing with the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry, where is there is a need to import the birds, they will issue the AP," he added.
Following meetings and discussion with wholesaler, he assured sufficient supply of all essential items during the festive and that there was no reason for traders to hike the price of the food items concerned. – Bernama
