Adenan: Vote for Sarawak-based parties, including UPP and Teras

KAPIT - Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem yesterday urged Sarawakians to vote only for Sarawak-based political parties in the next state election.

He said they should pick Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) and United People’s Party (UPP) besides the four state BN component parties.

“Do not vote for Peninsular Malaysia-based parties like the DAP, PKR and PAS because they do not know about us, Sarawakians.

“PBB, PRS, SPDP, SUPP, UPP, and Teras know Sarawak because they are all based in the state,” he said at a meet-the-people session at Kapit Civic Centre yesterday.

Adenan said he did not want extremist parties from the peninsula to operate in Sarawak.

He said doors were closed to extremists.

“Who knows Sarawak better than Sarawakian themselves? So leave us alone.”

Unlike in the peninsula, he said Sarawakians had been living in peace and harmony and also respected one another regardless of their religious backgrounds.

“I have said it publicly – in Sarawak, nobody is going to tell you how to practise your religion.

“I am not going to tell you how to practise your religion, the same way you are not going to tell me how I should practise my religion.”

On another matter, he said time had come to develop the rural areas much more than previously.

He said big towns like Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri had enjoyed enough facilities and infrastructure.

“The rich in the towns already have it all. Now it is time for us to go to help the poor in the rural areas.”
