Unfreeze bank accounts of companies cleared - SAPP

KOTA KINABALU - Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) has called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to quickly release bank account of companies that has been cleared after investigations during the "Ops BS".

Vice President cum Information Chief, Chong Pit Fah said SAPP lauded the action by the MACC in the conducting the massive operations against corruption in Sabah.

The operations had resulted in more than 1,000 bank accounts of companies in Sabah being frozen to facilitate investigations since end of last month.

However, Chong said SAPP hoped the MACC would be able to complete the investigations and unfreeze the accounts of those found nothing to do with the case.

“Sabah’s economy is really down at the moment after the Sandakan kidnap and the recent earthquake. Freezing more than 1,000 accounts of companies have added to the woes.

“Our state’s economy is spiralling down more quickly,” he said.

MACC Deputy Commissioner (Operation) Datuk Sri Mohd Shukri Abdull had been reported as saying that action was taken after a six-month surveillance.

He had also denied that MACC had abused its powers with the action after complaints from various quarters including Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and DAP.

The operations were conducted to combat corruption, subsidised diesel fraud and cigarette as well as alcohol smuggling.
