Senior MACC man vows to learn who ordered arrests

KUALA LUMPUR - A senior Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer vowed today to find out who was responsible for ordering his men arrested and questioned, and even having their offices raided over the investigation on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Speaking out against the alleged harassment as more MACC officers make it to the police’s hit list, the agency’s special operations division director Datuk Bahri Mohamad Zin told those behind the crackdown that the commission has only been doing its job.

“We do not have time to play politics as we are doing our job as entrusted by the public on what they expect us to do with regard to this investigation.

“You may have (political) powers, but I have Allah,” he was quoted saying tonight by Malaysiakini.

“I will find the perpetrators who are ordering the arrests. By God, I will find the perpetrators till kingdom come,” he reportedly told the news portal when contacted.

Bahri, who was himself questioned on Monday over the alleged leak of information in the 1MDB probe, also pointed out that his team had even sacrificed their leave for Hari Raya for the case.

The MACC is currently investigating SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former 1MDB subsidiary that is currently under the Finance Ministry.

So far, it is believed that nine have been hauled up so far in the probe on the alleged leaks - seven from the MACC, one of whom is a prosecutor seconded from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), a former MACC advisory board member and an AGC finance and anti-money laundering secretariat member.

Tonight, after questioning three from among the nine, the police raided the office of MACC’s special operations division. Two were also detained in the process though it has yet to be confirmed who the two are.

Last Saturday, police raided the house and office of Ahmad Sazilee Abdul Khairi, the prosecutor from AGC who was seconded to the MACC, in connection with the 1MDB probe.
