Deputy IGP dismissed abduction as rumours

Since unconfirmed reports of four more Malaysians being kidnapped surfaced this morning, it has been a waiting game for the online public as Malaysian authorities attempt to confirm the reports.

When contacted by Oriental Daily News this afternoon, deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid said that news of the abductions were just rumours.

He stressed that the police had confirmed this with Philippine authorities who had not received any news on the kidnapping.

He also said that the Malaysian police had not received any reports or information on abducted persons, and that further news would be confirmed by the police.

Philippine daily ABS-CBN quoted Tawi-Tawi Police director Senior Supt Joselito Salido as saying that an unidentified group had abducted the Malaysians and taken them to Sitankai beach in Tawi-Tawi before transporting them to Sulu.
