Concerned Malaysians call for fresh elections

PETALING JAYA: A group of concerned Malaysians have voiced their disagreement over attempts to bring down the present government and form a new coalition.

Consisting of academics, social activists, moderates and non-governmental organisation leaders, they called for a fresh general election for a fresh mandate if Pakatan Harapan is seen to have failed to deliver.

They also called on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to consider the call based on concern for the people.

“We, the people, are concerned that some politicians think that they own this country and can do whatever they wish without the legal and moral mandate of the rakyat.

“The rakyat will not agree to or cooperate with any back door government formed out of the selfish self-preservation agenda of certain MPs.

“If Pakatan has failed, then the rakyat demand a fresh mandate. The Yang di-Pertuan Agong should consider this (sic) position and concern of the rakyat, ” they said in a joint statement Sunday (Feb 23).

Among those who made the calls were Prof Dr Mohd Tajuddin Mohd Rasdi, Prof Edmund Terence Gomez, Datuk Dr Johan Arriffin Samad, Dr Lim Teck Ghee, Sevan Doraisamy, Datuk Noor Faridah Ariffin and Mohamed Tawfik Ismail.
